The reaction here is generally voluntary out of social consciousness as people don't bear much of a risk in general, particularly not children and parents' age group. They are participating in a process to reduce contagion and save the elderly and sick who are actually at risk. Most of the emergency steps are useful - large congested events with much physical contact and use of public facilities, and schools with much the same conditions. I think that China is the one country that would suffer most if the US did what the CCP wanted and stepped away from the S. China sea. Everyone with boat and a machine gun would be able to hijack a China bound tanker or grain ship and bring it for sale anywhere from Korea and Japan to Indonesia, the Philippines and India. Part of the US stepping back is that it would not care that it is happening. Meaning that nobody faces reprisals for piracy. China can't protect its shipping. The US does so as a matter of course for everyone. While the outer islands can get their shipments free and clear, China has to get its own shipments through an island chain. The canal in Thailand will not alter that. So China, in the natural state of things, has a natural blockade by anyone who wants to get free oil copper or grain at China's expense. Or capture a container ship of consumer goodies to sell on the local bazaars. It is solely and uniquely the US who has prevented this mass piracy that was the hallmark of pre-colonial S China sea commerce. As the old colonial powers did routinely and actively sabotage each other's and China's shipping, particularly Japan. Thus the US, by collapsing the Japanese and European empires and taking control of the military and naval bases on the island chains around the S China sea, have made safe shipping to and from China possible. There should be no doubt that without the US, China will experience an actual blockade. The CCP, like Putin, are reading the geopolitics upside down. The US does not want to be an empire, that is why NY is called the Empire State, it is only viewed positively in NYC, for the rest of America, it is an epithet. The US is involved in countless wars since its hegemony post Bretton Woods because that is what it took on as a cost of containing the Soviet empire. US wars before that were the overthrow of empires and unification of the country. The original states were English colonies declaring independence from the British, then the purchase of the midwest and Mississippi watershed from France, then war with Spain over the South West of N. America, the purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire. Finally, assisting the independence of the Spanish and Portuguese colonies - which continued till WWI. The wars of the pacific islands and beachheads into China between the wars were to protect US commerce into these markets. No different than Japan, Britain, France, Spain, Netherlands, Portuguese, Spanish and Germans. You had to back up your commerce with war ships. Otherwise, one of the other powers will steal your shipments directly or by looking away as it happens. That was why Japan ended up taking over China to the exclusion of the European powers and the US. They were losing out on the opportunities to access materials and products out of China to British and French who set up colonial ports there with cooperation of the China emperor and later the somewhat democratic republic of China. So Japan did what any colonial power would do if they could, and took over the entire NE China and then the port cities, and then all of SE Asia and the islands. We don't hate China nor the Chinese. Banned 4 or 5 culprits who went on a spamming spree. Side note, Google seems to have removed their search filters / search censors. Facebook and Twitter are now allowing previously banned videos to be posted. Please do check this out for yourself, Big Tech has apparently been defanged. For amusement, here is an easy one: try a Google Image Search for "greatest president ever" All sorts of non-mainstream stuff that was previously damn near impossible to find actual information on Google are now freely searchable. Try searching for stuff like: Weiner laptop Podesta Art Bill Gates eugenics Clinton Foundation and child trafficking Democrat vs Republican Democrat KKK Democrat racism Or try Google searching for anything that interests you, the search results are vastly different today. Their refusal to allow WHO and CDC into the hot-zone also limited other countries' understanding of the virus. The Ayatolla and Iranian governement are 100% responsible for hiding the epidemic during the Iranian elections causing a massive breakout. Boris Johnson is 100% responsible for refusing to act as the virus spread in the UK, preferring to use contrarian science and build "herd immunity". Trump is 100% responsible for spending an extra six weeks claiming this was a Democrat hoax, killing off the pandemic response team, and undermining America's ability to test.
