Can Charging Your Car at Night Save the World?

If you want to save the environment, you have to do more than just drive an EV. You have to charge it at the right time, too. If all drivers plug in increasingly large EV fleet right after work, it could undo many of the environmental benefits expected from fewer cars running on gasoline and diesel.

Yup, the grid is not really designed for the lulls and spikes like that. But Tesla just announced it's free charging stations for businesses so that employees can charge their car while they are at work (most of which would be from 9-5, I would think), during non-busy times. This would be less of a drain on the system. That said, it's mostly still fossil fuels that will be responsible for charging those "green" EVs. While the EV and energy industries comprehend this, I'm not sure the average Joe does.
