Just an opinion piece in a newspaper doesn't make it official threat or policy.  But yes, move American production and the supply chain outside of China.

You should understand the the typical alternative employment is as household help paid in room and board.

All they need to do is stop sending FDA inspectors to China and that would end the ability of China to send pharmaceutical supplies to the US legally. FDA inspects production lines and facilities. Nominally, they go through the entire supply chain.  

I think we have had our Sputnik moment as to supply chains running through China. US Federal government programs can be structured to avoid payments for Chinese made medications, or those containing Chinese components.

Indeed.  One of my Indian ex-colleague's family employs a number of servants on such terms

There seems to be a disconnect here. We are discussing the moving of supply chain components out of CHINA, but the photos and video appear to be related to INDIA!

Companies will now, IN MY OPINION, be looking to move their supply chains out of China to prevent the bottlenecks to production experienced during the corona virus event. They may also seek to create redundant systems.

When you start comparing the living conditions, wages, and working conditions in other economies, without considering there options, you are on a fool’s errand.

There's no disconnect.  The point is that India has a large pool of hardworking and cheap labour, which makes it a potential alternative manufacturing destination.

In India the major problem is disastrous labor law. Whole world wants to tap into reservoir of 1 billion Indian workers the same US  and China or any other country.

But in India you need permission from the local government to lay off people. The permission is never granted.

So you can have workers that are always late, steal from the factory, or always work drunk or on drugs but you have to still pay them and keep them.

It sounds like situation from bad dream or class B movie but it is reality.

It is a real pity nobody wants to invade India and liberate its people from tyranny of governing elites.

If India would not be so populous, sovereign and most of all nuclear power I think international UN based action would be taken to at least decrease the immense suffering of its people.

Think for a moment about a group of people that were given the ability to rule themselves, after being supported by the outside civilized power (British Empire) for 3 centuries. But after the experiment that lasts already 70 years, you finally find out that  they still die out of hunger, cannot support themselves as a community.

It would be natural that such a community would be taken under government custody.

Of course the situation in India is very beneficial for all other people in the world.

Think about 1.4 billion people suddenly having electricity and running water, cars etc, second China appearing on this planet.

Additional 10 billion tons of CO2 a year and 1 billion tons of hydrocarbons consumption, it would be very difficult for all of us, so let them stay poor, indefinitely.

That was once very common in the United States also. Now we have appliances to do much of the work, plus prepared meals, fast food, food delivery, gardeners, poolboys, etc. Even the wealthy only use part time help unless they have a huge home and gardens. 

O.J. Simpson had a poolboy over his garage though. 😨

Well you used to have slavery in the US.  Incidentally, one of my relatives is descended from a Slaver.  His ancestor invested his proceeds in a company that is still a well known British brand to this day.

I won't say they are proud of it, but the deed or whatever document is a framed display in the living room.
