Coronavirus disease 2019: the harms of exaggerated information and non-evidence-based measures

Recommended Posts

Noted epidemiologist John P.A. Ioannidis wrote an interesting contrarian paper and article about the response to Covid here:

Paper:

Ioannidis is one the most cited people ever and has caused a sea change in science due to uncovering the problems with "p-hacking" in science - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1182327/

A garbage pseudo-science paid by your friendly multinational - if you also take the bundle proving there is no climate change and that the earth is flat, you get a discount! Oh, and gravity is a total scam. I got paid handsomely for that one.

Meanwhile, in the REAL world, WHO warns that USA is becoming the next pandemic centre while the people in Italy and Spain, who watch helplessly as columns of military transports transport away their dead, because the local furnaces are overwhelmed too and cannot keep up burning all the corpses. "Don't repeat the same mistake we did, act fast and act decisively!" None of the actual epidemiologists who worked in the frond lines stopping SARS and EBOLA said waiting is the correct approach, on the contrary - you cannot react to exponential progression! Once symptoms manifest, it's already too late.

So I would be very careful who to listen - some aging pen-pusher who evidently gets kicks out of presenting a "controversial opinion" (he is not alone - most top oligarch would rather let the sick and old die. It's just necessary to paint it with a coat of "science", just like the so called "climate change scepticism"), or the people who actually fight these diseases in the jungles of Africa in the front lines, risking their own life in the process.
