Papuans Blame Exxon for Quake

Recommended Posts

Papua New Guineans have blamed Exxon for the recent devastating earthquake that killed scores of people. Apparently, even some in the government suspect that drilling has had something to do with the quake. This just as Exxon and Total said they planned expanding PNG LNG. Interesting to see what will happen.

Geologists are debunking the claim that Exxon's actions caused the quake. Either way, Exxon was hit pretty hard by this, so if it was them, they received their just reward.

Such claims are reckless, and delegitimize other claims with actual merit. Investigate first, point fingers second.

Probably just a bunch of disgruntled locals... can't blame them from trying to squeeze a couple of bucks out of the situation..

No, there's also a senior government official who's called for an investigation into drilling. With or without an investigation they can't just shut down PNG LNG, anyway.

Exxon seems to be the new boogeyman as of late. North American pipelines are probably grateful for the shift of focus.

This was a huge earthquake, and I don't think drilling could have caused it, per se. But I won't pretend to be a geologist. Any geologists on this forum???

I'm not a geologist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
