Volkswagen Assigns $24 Billion In Battery Orders

Recommended Posts

Volkswagen has selected partners to provide battery cells and related technology worth around $24.7 billion for electric-vehicle projects in Europe and China, pushing ahead with a shift to zero-emission cars. Europe’s largest automaker will expand EV production to 16 factories worldwide through the end of 2022. VW has a goal to launch 80 new electric cars across the group by 2025 and offer an electric version of each of its 300 group models by 2030.

Well there's only one direction isn't there. Technology a forward push and hopefully VW have got it right this time. Non pollutive vehicles, so we will see hiccups in the battery world.

Putting some pressure on Tesla, finally ... but I also see it's trying to cut the amount of cobalt it needs for batteries. That just highlights why we should all be bullish on lithium and cobalt (and all battery metals), if we're not already sold on this.

And, don't forget  about “dieselgate” emissions scandal with their cars ( was revealed two and a half years ago). "Dieselgate" helped Volkswagen to quickly embrace electric cars.

Probably not the only one cheating but they were the only one getting caught and sued.

VW is a profitable company. It recognizes its responsibility to stockholders to make a profit, year after year.  VW knows how much money it can flush down the EV pipe every year and still make a profit.

It might be a step in the right direction, but it's a bit of a misrepresentation to tout EVs--EVs alone, I mean--as the answer to our carbon problem. Ya'll realize that in many states, we're burning coal to charge those EVs, right? And that EV makers mine--perhaps in environmentally unfriendly ways--for light-weight metals? Let's not make EVs out to be The Solution. We've a long way to go before that happens. Infrastructure must be changed too.
