If this rule is imposed, I expect renewable energy stocks to jump quite a bit. WaytoPeace + 62 PC March 23, 2018 Since there is no such thing as truly clean coal, the better alternative, if one is to use coal for power generation, is CO2 sequestration. The problem is that this would increase the cost such that if it is passed on to the consumer it would raise electricity prices by 20-30%. Natural gas produces half the greenhouse gas as does coal, provided methane release is controlled in the process, and therefore provides the best bridge source at the lowest cost. Unfortunately, Asia doesn’t have enough natural gas, and coal fired power plants are cheaper to build to meet the rapidly growing demand for electricity in that part of the world. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The only thing holding it back is that the oil companies find gasoline too profitable.
