I have no expectation of contact tracing doing anything favorable for anyone. It is a sheer waste of effort, which had a short window of opportunity to succeed, and did, in part. Now we know that it accomplishes nothing we need, it is just a tool to buy time till we know what we are doing, something that was obvious from the start.

But the "experts" at running mathematical models that assume we are a uniform gas and our collisions have a fixed probability of passing infection with a fixed mortality never had a large scale epidemic let alone a pandemic to calibrate their models, ran numbers on irrelevant data highly biased by test protocols and gave nonsense for advice while ignoring the virological and medical data and statistics of outcomes by age and condition. The result of following their instructions rather than common sense caused more damage than the virus, by orders of magnitude. The entire profession needs to be fired and go back to school to do actual research on actual disease with actual  measurements and data. Learn how to estimate R0 variations with population density and presence of differing transmission environments (subways, schools, events, spring break parties). Actually talk to virologists and infectious disease doctors, microbiologists and physiologists.

But it is now clear that we DO NOT WANT to stop the virus. We WANT the YOUNG and HEALTHY to get it in order to create herd immunity now. The mortality and hospitalization rates for this group are well within that for the flu. We need only protect the elderly and the ill with lethal comorbidities. They need to stay away from gatherings and bad transmission conditions like unpartitioned office spaces and shared ventilation or crowded workspaces, public transport and events. Use masks and gloves, have verified sanitized conditions at the start of the retail day for them to come in. Everyone else can go about their business as usual with as much precautions as they may want to take.

The giveaway on privacy and the distraction of useless contact tracing data is not all damage and no good. I don't need to be near you to get your cooties, I just need to pass in your path within a few hours of you being there.

Wish I could give you more than than 1 purple cup for that ^

This greeting is impressive to see on a Friday night on Union Street in Aberdeen after the greeter has had 10 or so pints!

Okay, here’s a theory....

The rest of the world will be watching events closely in the US in the near future.

The States which are ‘going back to work’ will be in the fishbowl.

If the virus goes on the rampage again, in these States, the world will simply say “we told you so” and continue to look down their noses at those ‘rednecked, uneducated, drugged up Americans’ and start a new round of Trump bashing (even though the responsibility lies with the Governors).

On the other hand, if these States get back to work, and the virus does not stage a comeback, other countries will scramble to lift their lockdowns in an effort to salvage their economies.....while still castigating the US for being reckless.

Face it Yanks, you’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t!

Other countries have already come out of lockdown!

why is everything always about the USA on oil price?

This thread has gotten so brutally bad that it is way beyond bizarre, to a level  of incoherent opacity that defies any attempt at rigorous analysis, therefore, I shall avoid the impulse to post any comment!

But for how long? Is this the new normal?

Eventually, presumably, we get a vaccine, which might take 18 months. 'How long' would depend on the situation. Denser packed cities (NYC, Boston, etc.) would have to dial up slowly. Low density cities like LA could ease up on the brakes more easily. Some rural areas might remove all restrictions, allowing people to use their own judgement.

I guess Malaysia spent all that money on French submarines to defend Malaysian waters....but apparently do not care who intrudes now....strange.🤔

the reason they couldn't care more is ....... those submarines won't sink........ :oO.o  Those that would, hit coral and the bottom any time in seconds.........¬¬

One Belt, One Road in a nutshell: bribe foreign corrupt leaders to seize control of assets later.

The initial intention might be just helping the poorer countries along the old silk road to develop in friendly gesture, some might be upon requests made.......

The contracts are uniformly inflated, employ Chinese rather than locals, and produce losses, with few exceptions. ............ Their actual benefit is irrelevant, the main benefit is to create employment and thus demand in China.

China is not creating a bipolar world, it is creating a sinkhole into which it will disappear. ALL of the world's major economies BUT FOR the US, have already embarked on programs to extract their producers out of China. Nobody cares what they do for the China market, but they will not be able to export to EU Japan Korea, likely Taiwan, Australia, UK, India, and soon enough UK and USA will have explicit extraction plans.

Contrary to your thinking that Xi was late to the game and it was Deng who misread the situation, I think that Deng understood that the Chinese economy did not yet have the excess it needed to be able to take on an imperial role, not to speak of a hegemonic role. Xi mistook statistics for economics and bit off more than he could chew.

Most countries along silk road might have their glorious days in the past. But  they have remained largely distracted of interest due to language barrier and may be resource poor or diverted trade roads available. Working under condition like that could be very challenging and headache proven..... Could those you mentioned simply compromises in exchange of whatever is negotiated, until solution is catching up, may be??

hahahha........... this is likely accurate....... foreign ventures are likely sunk there, especially if the Quality Control department is not managed properly.

Japan has its glorious days since the 80s. Japan has monopolized the supply chain of electronic materials, electrical appliances in US, Europe, South East Asia and may be other parts of the world without anyone disapproving it but highly welcoming it........ Good quality of work at affordable prices, unified isolated operations and strategic partnerships might have won the races.... Japan, despite being a small country, might have held the largest share of world economy, overlooked.............   China is merely helping out with the infrastructure of the neighbouring countries, which might or might not bring in profit, but  it's receiving so much harsh disapproval........ Where are we heading with this hostility?? How do we bring out better solutions??

Deng Xiao Ping might have been the least recognized or mentioned, Father of Development, for modern China. He was low profile but fulled of foresight and courage. He encouraged the opening of doors to the world. He was expecting progress to be brought into the Country of very large population with very high poverty rate..... He realized that there might be a limitation of growth, shall the country continue to grow without interaction with the world...... Xi Jin Ping, however, is taking the game a level higher. China is reaching out to the world of those who need it..........  Hence, you might be the one misreading or misjudging the situation??

Hmmm....why are us white people referred to as ‘caucasians’? Not a one of us looks like we came from the Caucasus!!!

This remark, shall it is rephrased with a different punctuation mark, might get you a noble peace prize...... According to Google, Caucasian literally means historical origin close to southern Russia..... With this, Europeans will now be the new best friends of Russia besides Ukraine, northern China and the middle east....... same origin, so to trace..........O.o:D

We never developed a vaccine for any of the other ‘pandemics’, I doubt one is developed for this one either.
