When it comes to Congress, are they essential workers?

It seems the debate in Congress since April has been whether U.S. representatives and senators are, indeed, essential workers.

For more than five weeks, the COVID-19 crisis has all but closed Congress, a longer absence than during the 1918 Spanish flu.

Capitol Hill erupted late last week after the attending physician informed top GOP officials the health office did not have the means to perform instant virus tests on returning lawmakers or staff.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump himself offered Congress access to 1,000 instant virus tests similar to a system used to screen visitors to the White House.

But lawmakers declined, with Republican and Democratic leaders indicating they were wary of preferential treatment amid a national shortage of tests.

Trump tweeted Monday that Congress was essentially “saying that they are not ‘essential.’”

It sounds like that to us, too.

Why is it people who are classified as essential are showing up at their jobs daily to check out groceries, stock shelves, prepare takeout food, fix automobiles or, even more importantly, treat people who have the coronavirus — but not the people who craft the laws and policies of the United States?

The Senate, to its credit, convened Tuesday for the first time since March, while the House is staying away because of the health risks. That is not to say many representatives were not working. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pressed ahead Tuesday with the next coronavirus aid, a sweeping package that is expected to be unveiled soon even as the House stayed closed.

Last month, House Democrats proposed a temporary overhaul of House rules to permit lawmakers to cast votes by proxy for their colleagues, allowing them to go on record without leaving home during the coronavirus outbreak. Republicans pushed back, and the plan was shelved.

The simple truth is that Main Street America is hurting, badly hurting. Just when the country needs Congress to step up and take stronger steps to help people who are out of work and having trouble putting food on the table, representatives have been trying to figure out whether or not to go to their place of business. Even worse, they can’t seem to figure out how to work from home and cast meaningful votes.

The debate that should be on the table in Washington right now is how to help Main Street. Republicans are counting on a reopened economy to reduce the need for more aid.

With five weeks already lost, how much longer should people wait until the economy improves significantly? Most experts are saying it won’t be this year.

In the meantime, it appears we will just have to wait to see whether representatives can figure out how to get to their place of work or how to work from home before we get the answers about helping Main Street.

Sundance over on Conservative Treehouse:

Tennessee Police Arrest Citizen Who Escaped Forced COVID-19 Detention Camp

Comrades, some readers might not be aware the Ministry of COVID compliance has set up quarantine camps, detention facilities in various areas.  Formerly free citizens who test positive for COVID-19 are forcibly taken to the quarantine camps and held under guard.

Last week one of the non-compliant captives demanded his freedom; he climbed the fence and escaped detention.  After a manhunt in Tennessee the subversive citizen was recaptured, arrested and brought back to the detention facility….  Alarmed yet?

TENNESSEE – A coronavirus patient was arrested Thursday after prosecutors said he jumped a fence and fled the Nashville Fairgrounds, where health officials are using enforceable quarantines in an attempt to control an outbreak at an emergency homeless shelter.

This appears to be the first case in Nashville of police making an arrest to enforce coronavirus restrictions enacted by the local government.

[…] According to an arrest affidavit, a 39-year-old man was taken to the Nashville Fairgrounds on Monday and placed under quarantine by the Metro Nashville Public Health Department because he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Health officials told the man he could not leave until he was cleared, but on Thursday he jumped a fence and headed north on Nolensville Road, the affidavit states. He was stopped and arrested by Metro Nashville Parks police by a city cemetery nearly two miles from where he had been quarantined. Metro Parks has charged the man with a single count of escape from a penal institution. (read more)

As you can see from this example, the Tennessee Ministry of COVID Compliance cares about the health of its compliant citizens.  Authorities empowered by the Ministry will actively hunt down subversive citizens and forcibly detain them in the ongoing effort to build a new society where compliance will always provide the security you seek.

If wrong-thoughts or requests for arbitrary freedom continue to be expressed, it may become necessary for the Ministry to take enhanced enforcement action.  Please do not put the Ministry in the position of having to make such decisions. Compliance is in your best interest and re-education facilities are costly to maintain.

Relax comrades, the Ministry is sensitive to your previous rights as we initiate our new, safer, society.  The COVID Compliance Ministry appreciates good citizens who voluntarily participate in the rules of our new society. We will continue to reward good citizenship status with enhanced tax credits and social benefits allowing greater access to a safe COVID Compliant Society. A safer society; where the odds will always be in our favor.

A rogue citizen could put a compliant society at risk of infection. They may not just carry biologics they could carry a more alarming virus of wrong-thought against the interests of the state. Rogue citizens would be subversive to our new society.

Social Distancing or House Arrest…. Details, comrades,… details.

cont'd from earlier- COVID testing is mandatory for those on gov assistance.  >diggz

Cali testing location webpage was launched May 6, same day as the Social Services letter.

https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/OPA/Pages/NR20-076.aspx

The testing website is to provide location information and appointments.  Along with the testing task force page it links, there is no statement of mandatory testing.

The Cali Public Health Dept provides guidelines on testing (pic related).

857303012_f59558e6451cb09c2afa9501334c85a97f1fd37d835c6855236d4b7863674cc3(1).thumb.jpg.135c08b8a33ca91b83f59bfdb2a4b2ce.jpg

Standard guidelines, healthcare workers, high risk, and those with symptoms.  There is no indication that persons on benefits are considered at risk.  The testing guidelines do specify or provide a link for mandatory Social Services Department testing.

https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/Expanding-Access-to-Testing-Updated-Interim-Guidance-on-Prioritization-for-COVID-19-Laboratory-Testing-0501.aspx

If anything, it implies that testing should be for those in need at high risk and overwhelm the testing facilities.  If all family members receiving benefits must be tested by the June date, that would be millions of test samples taken, processed and documented.  The system could be overwhelmed.

Appears the Social Services "MD" signing the letter is a power hunger tyrant with shit for brains - reason he is a bureaucrat behind the desk rather than practicing medicine (but the public is still at great risk from his incompetent conduct).

============================

No mandatory requirements from May noted on the Social Services webpage either.  Would think that would have been posted.

"All County Welfare Director Letters (ACWDLs)" links for May concern the stimulus relief benefits and no testing requirements if on benefits. (quick read only)

So if benefits are dependant on testing, more likely that it would violate federal law,

18 USC 246: Deprivation of relief benefits

Whoever directly or indirectly deprives, attempts to deprive, or threatens to deprive any person of any employment, position, work, compensation, or other benefit provided for or made possible in whole or in part by any Act of Congress appropriating funds for work relief or relief purposes, on account of political affiliation, race, color, sex, religion, or national origin, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title18-section246&num=0&edition=prelim

Would recommend the Social Services "MD" signing the letter and associated directors be prosecuted.

Brooklyn Police Arrest 40 People For Violations of “Social Distancing”, The Media Worry What Color They Are

Do you ever feel like a martian on another planet?   NBC has an article today discussing forty people arrested in Brooklyn, New York, for violations of the “social distance” rules.

Wait, what?

…Think.

Police… Arrest… Forty People… for Violating… Social Distance Rules.

That alone should be the jaw-dropping headline that shoots flares and warning signals into the stratosphere alerting America that something is seriously screwed up in New York City.  Alas, it is not the simple fact that police are ridiculously arresting people; no, what concerns NBC media is the color of the people being ridiculously arrested:

NBC – Newly released statistics on the New York Police Department’s social-distancing enforcement show that black people account for the majority of arrests in Brooklyn.

Police arrested 40 people in the borough for social-distancing violations from March 17 through May 4, the district attorney’s office said Thursday night.

Of those arrested, 35 people were black, four were Hispanic and one was white.

More than a third of the arrests, 16, were made in Brownsville, a predominantly black neighborhood.

Five people were arrested in East New York’s 75th Precinct and another five in Bedford-Stuyvesant’s 79th Precinct.

No arrests were made in Park Slope, a majority-white neighborhood.  (read more)

Good grief, forget the color… back up a few constitutional amendments and reset the baseline.  WHAT THE HECK are the police doing arresting anyone?

Is New York City so far gone the sheeple just skipped the whole slippery slope thing, and decided to jump ahead and debate who ends up in the pool?

I thought New Yorkers had the biggest F U balls on the planet?  And New Jersey?  Get Outta Heeere!  Have they all been cowed into complete submission?  The city that never sleeps?

I had a thought (I know, but it happens):

What would America do if we were attacked with such a virus as a weapon and, now that we all know how to go to our quiet space and wait for government permission to go out and play, while we were "happily" isolating a second wave of attacks came in the form of humans (or aliens, if you like)?  Now, assuming that this 2nd wave was not our own military, don't you think America would go outside to confront said attackers?

Just a thought (I know, but it happens).

UK: Police Investigating People Who Post Tweets Critical of Lockdown

Police in the UK are apparently investigating people online who post tweets critical of the coronavirus lockdown.

Toby Young’s LockdownSceptics.org website was contacted by a reader who regularly dissents against the shutdown of the UK on social media.

“I was contacted by a reader who has been very critical of police over-reach on Twitter,” writes Young.

“He saw a Tweet from another sceptic complaining the police had checked his profile on LinkedIn and thought, “That can’t possibly be true. Surely, they’ve got more urgent maters to attend to?” He then checked his own LinkedIn profile and found this.”

PastedGraphic-6.png.d69cc456b45e000a6e3ddf87259d8dc6.png

A screenshot shows that the individual’s LinkedIn profile was accessed nine times between April 28 and May 5, and that one of the visitors was someone working for Metropolitan Police in London.

Not content with using surveillance drones to publicly shame remote countryside dog walkers, the authorities are now also apparently keeping tabs on anti-lockdown social media posts.

Because it’s not like there’s much real crime to deal with in London, is it?

Isn't the more likely explanation the whole letter is simply fake and no tyrant 'MD' really signed anything like it?

Edit:

https://www.cwda.org/post/beware-fake-letter-circulating

Did that possibility not occur to the factcheckers on 8kun, or did they just stop when they reached 'someone in the government is doing something evil, thought so'?

Similar stuff in uk and elsewhere. Lies from all sides everywhere.

It seems that Americans took the word "freedom" and turned it into something twisted and monstrous, similar to what Eastern bloc communists did with the word "comrade".

I know it's quite confusing to some who thing that their "freedom" means they can go around, using their wealth to destroy other peoples lives and the environment they share with the rest of the humanity, but if somebody thinks he has the right to roam around and spread a deadly disease, endangering potentially the whole nation, than it's an illusion.

You never had such "freedom", and nobody will ever guarantee it. That's why Asians and former eastern block Europeans are managing the crisis better - because they understand that sometimes, the good of all must be put before the convenience of an individual. It seems that it is a lesson western societies will yet have to learn.

GEEZ !  Incredible.  It is hard to believe.  Incredible - by definition.   Remember a decade ago and all those people warning and YouTube Videos about the FEMA Camps?  It is right out of the playbook.  These Technocratic Minions make Nazi Germany look like the Easter Bunny.

Great find Tom Kirkman.  You always got some of the coolest memes and news articles.
