California leads nation in solar jobs, but industry has lost some of its glow

The foundation’s newly released “Solar Jobs Census 2017” report revealed that the Golden State employed 86,414 people in the solar industry last year. That was nearly seven and a half times the number of solar workers in Massachusetts, which ranked second with 11,530 jobs.

Solar employment rose in 29 states last year, including Arizona, Utah, Minnesota, Ohio, New York and Florida. California’s solar industry is expected to grow by 13.3 percent next year.

California will lead the nation in Solar for a  long time. I'm glad to see California pushing investments in renewable energy and leading the way.

We are talking in short-term. 2016 was a big year for solar but everything slowed down a little bit last year because of the tariffs. But solar will prevail it over time.

One thing is for sure. We'll never run out of sunlight. Not something we could say for fuel.

I don't think that raw numbers are very meaningful in seclusion. California's population as astronomical compared to many other US states. Of course they are going to have much higher rates of employment in the Renewables industry. And probably almost every other industry as well.

California has about 40 million people. Massachusetts has only about 7 million.
