U.S. Sanctions: Russia’s 50 Richest Businessmen Have Lost Close To $12 billion In One Day

Recommended Posts

These 50 guys aren't laughing today. They lost $12bn fo just one day.  According to the Forbes magazine’s real-time ranking, metals tycoon Vladimir Potanin was the biggest total-value loser with $1.5 billion wiped out. Potanin, part-owner of Norilsk Nickel, was not targeted by the U.S. Treasury Department in its latest wave of sanctions. Fellow steel tycoon Oleg Deripaska, who has stakes in eight of the 15 entities hit with sanctions, followed with an estimated $1.3 billion erased from his $6.7 billion net worth. Deripaska led the list of Russians to have lost after the sanctions in percentage terms, having almost a quarter of his fortune decimated in a day. Sanctions-hit member of Russia’s Federation Council Suleiman Kerimov rounded out the top-three with estimated losses of $1.2 billion. Russia’s ninth-richest businessman Viktor Vekselberg, also on the U.S. sanctions list, lost just under $1 billion, etc...

UK and EU should follow through with their sanctions and make this  a $25 billion loss. It's a nice, round number...

Yep. Unfortunately, they will reimburse the losses at the expense of ordinary citizens of Russia.

Sanctions against oligarch are the best way to undermine Putin's corrupt and failing state is to sanction the oligarchs with which he has a relationship based on mutual gain. Putin lets them steal billions of tax dollars and they in turn help him keep power. I was surprised not to see Alisher Usmanov on the sanction list - one of the richest and most important oligarchs. Hopefully new sanctions will include him as well.

Corrupt politicians and oligarchs, with Putin as their enabler are what is stopping Russia from making gains in any aspect, economic, social etc. A corrupt and sinister regime. Russia deserves better.

Russians very well remember disaster made by western "puppet" Yeltsin so they cant really understand one simplest thing.

Yeltsin - authocrat which assualted  russian parlament with tanks and  president during worst social and economical catastrophy of one country in XX century without war was good guy for western rules and russian liberals. So US meddled badly and openly in russian presidential elections in 1996.

Putin which made economical and social miracle is bad guy- look on average life expectancy in Russia and birth/death rate for example.

So vast majority of Russians think that maybe its really not about whether Russian are starving like during Yeltsin years because that was perfect for the west that Russia is dying but the main problem is that he promotes russians domestics oligarchs and dont allow foreign to rob the country like Yeltsin and all he wants is multipolar world not US global hegemony?

Yeltsin - authocrat which assualted  russian parlament with tanks and  president during worst social and economical catastrophy of one country in XX century without war was good guy/hero for western rulers and media and russian liberals. So US even meddled badly and openly in russian presidential elections in 1996.

Putin which made economical and social miracle in 10 years  is bad guy- look on average life expectancy in Russia and birth/death rate for example- you will understand what I mean.

So vast majority of Russians think that maybe its really not about whether Russian are starving like during Yeltsin years because that was not a problem even good situation for the west that russian bear is finally dying but the main fundamental problem with Putin is that he promotes oligarchs but russians domestics oligarchs not foreign companies and dont allow foreign adventurers to rob the country with such natural resources like Yeltsin and all he wants is multipolar world not US global hegemony?

So I'm truly convinced that all that western media work on demonizing Putin in his own country all the time is really wasted money because most Russian has deaply-rooted opinion about him and western press and leaders because of their behaviour during last 30 years. And I agree with them
