Diesel car owners in trouble in UK

Many garages have removed DPFs because they are expensive to replace when they fail. Now, if you drive Audi you have to replace diesel particulate filter every five years. But, if you have bloody Citroen or Ford, that is easily annual visit.

or sometimes the owner wanted to improve the car’s performance and removes filter. That should be punichable

Bizarrely, older, often more polluting, diesel cars – those built before 2005-06 when DPFs were first introduced – will see no change, and will be emissions-tested as they are now.

same in rest of the Europe. Western part at least. In Italy for instance you can manage without DPF. But then again, in Italy drivers wear t shirts with a black diagonal line so it looks to the police they are wearing a seat belt.

Dpf is a good idea in principle. It scrubs the solids from the exhaust output. But the filter is not replaceable and the whole filter has to be replaced for a lot of money. For many it clogs up and its turned out to be a bad idea. So many cant afford to buy a replacement at half the price of the cars current value.

What is very funny about this is that VW sold the diesel as being environmentally correct.
