US natural gas futures for 2018 collapse

Recommended Posts

Another warm winter this year has caused natural gas traders to drop futures for the first half of 2018, driving the full calendar strip to its lowest level on record. Traders, however, said the latest winter forecasts for seasonal weather through the end of the year disappointed market bulls.

It felt like October up until the last week, really. We didn't start burning wood until mid-November. We have used only a fraction of the wood to heat that we normally do, so not surprising that consumption for fuel to heat has gone way down.

That said, winter storm Chloe is now upon us and ravaging the mid-west/east.

STILL, THIS WILL MEAN LESS SPLITTING WOOD FOR ME NEXT YEAR!  HIP HIP HOORAY! Sorry, nat gas bulls!

You'd be splitting a ton of wood in China. Coal ban isn't working as smoothly as they'd like and the quick switch to natural gas to heat homes and run factories is causing a bit of chaos. Chinese authorities are commandeering nat gas supplies to heat homes. Factories closing down because they don't have the gas they need ... Trying to get 3 million homes in the north heated on gas and supplies aren't keeping up with demand.

Yeah, China is learning a hard lesson that you can't really go out with the old until you come in with the new...
