Walmart and VW's Electrify America Team Up To Build Massive EV Charging Network Across US

Volkswagen unit Electrify America will install EV charging stations up to 350 kilowatts at more than 100 Walmart store locations in 34 U.S. states by mid-2019. This automaker is determined to sell more EVs in the U.S. and this is a great step toward that goal, but can they really compete with Tesla in scope?

Nobody can compete with German car quality. They are aware of infrastructure lack and planning to built 2,000 high speed EV chargers which comes right after also VW owned Porsche said it is going to build 500 of its own EV charging stations in the U.S. by the end of 2019. And what's better for that than Walmart which has stores all around the U.S. Smart move on VW's part.

But VW currently has only one EV on the market. I don't doubt his quality but only 178 e-Golfs were sold in the U.S. this January. Not really enviable number.

I'm  very suspicious when comes to electric vehicles in the U.S. If they don't resolve this lack of infrastructure they can forget the mass adoption of electric cars.

VW is doing this only because of their diesel gate scandal. Their settlement with U.S. Government dictates they spend $2 billion over the next decade on development of zero-emissions vehicle infrastructure in the US.

Definitely, in the next couple years as the big car companies start mass producing cheaper / on schedule ev's - Tesla will be in deep trouble.

It will not matter how many EV charging stations they put up, unless charging times are reduced to a practical number I can not see myself leaving the cars for hours for charging

But for charging EV's you need electricity which will be from thermal plants.  So there will more demand for electricity.  How does this cut carbon emission unless we switch to more and more hydro power plants.  Not to forget water is going to become the next oil.
