Robot-mania: The U.S. Is Way Behind Other Countries On Robot "Readiness"

Recommended Posts

The United States lags behind other countries in readiness for an increasingly automated world, placing ninth on a ranking of 25 advanced economies, according to a new report from Swiss technology giant ABB. South Korea, Singapore, Germany and Canada are better prepared for the rise of machines, thanks largely to their education systems and labor policies, the authors of the Automation Readiness Index concluded. No country is “genuinely ready” for the technological shift that is expected to displace millions of workers worldwide in the next three decades, they found — but the United States is especially underprepared for the jobs of the future.

Few things about robot-mania and potential law implication. Did you ever think if your robot hurts someone, are you liable? Legally speaking, is a robot like a pet? An employee? Should robots have rights? Some questions need answers...

In the U.S. robots have taken about half a million jobs already.  We need to rethink the work week living wage and how to enlighten people that technology and robotics are here to stay. Ignoring it won’t help. It isn’t jobs moving over sea that are closing plants, its automation.

I'm not afraid of a robot. I'm all for automation where it's actually better OR safer to use it, (ie not in service) but we need a society where a person's basic survival isn't tied to the size of their bank account if we really want to be able to take advantage of this technology.
