North Sea Decommissioning Could Cost 80 Bln

Recommended Posts

That's compared with a government estimate of 39 billion pounds. The higher bill was calculated by an NGO that says the Oil and Gas Authority made several assumptions that go cunter to its own data. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle as usual. Still quite a bill.

The necessity for decomissioning in the North Sea has been a can kicked down the road for a while both by oil companies and the UK government.  Time will eventually come to pay the piper for the decom work.  It should be a new cottage industry, that should provide skilled and semi-skilled jobs for offshore staff.
