World No1: China Invested $126.6bn In Renewables Last Year

Recommended Posts

For every $1 the US spent on clean energy in 2017, China spent $3. Global investment in renewable energy reached almost $280 billion last year, with China the biggest spender by far ($126.6 billion), followed by the United States ($40.5 billion). Europe, meanwhile, suffered an even larger decline (36%) in renewable energy investment, to $40.9 billion. This was due largely to a 65% fall in investment in the United Kingdom, reflecting an end to subsidies for onshore wind and utility-scale solar, and a gap between auctions for offshore wind projects...

A few facts. Total global employment in renewables passed 10m jobs for the first time last year (International Renewable Energy Agency Annual Review 2018). Solar power now employs nearly 3.4m, up 9% from last year. And China has twice as many solar power jobs as every other country combined.

China is the world's leading country in electricity production from renewable energy sources, with over double the generation of the second-ranking country....Also, now China builds 5 most advanced nuclear power stations every year, plan to build 60 nuclear power stations in 10 years....

Ok. So, U.S. moves up to second most attractive renewables market after China... China is the largest air - polluter in the world.

Sometimes looking at gross emissions is wrong. China is 36x our population, but emits half as much per capita. They are converting to renewables and clean transport at a frantic pace.
