The Grey Lady has fallen (further into irrelevancy)

Recommended Posts

Bari Weiss wrote a scathing resignation letter to her former employer. No one with an IQ over room temperature reading it will miss the glaring and obvious bias that MSM source has. The rest, the ones party to the problem will claim nothing at all is amiss. That in itself is a problem, but like autistic children, self reflection and awareness is thoroughly absent in these people.

Dear A.G.,

It is with sadness that I write to tell you that I am resigning from The New York Times.

I joined the paper with gratitude and optimism three years ago. I was hired with the goal of bringing in voices that would not otherwise appear in your pages: first-time writers, centrists, conservatives and others who would not naturally think of The Times as their home. The reason for this effort was clear: The paper’s failure to anticipate the outcome of the 2016 election meant that it didn’t have a firm grasp of the country it covers. Dean Baquet and others have admitted as much on various occasions. The priority in Opinion was to help redress that critical shortcoming.

But the lessons that ought to have followed the election—lessons about the importance of understanding other Americans, the necessity of resisting tribalism, and the centrality of the free exchange of ideas to a democratic society—have not been learned. Instead, a new consensus has emerged in the press, but perhaps especially at this paper: that truth isn’t a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else.

Twitter is not on the masthead of The New York Times. But Twitter has become its ultimate editor. As the ethics and mores of that platform have become those of the paper, the paper itself has increasingly become a kind of performance space. Stories are chosen and told in a way to satisfy the narrowest of audiences, rather than to allow a curious public to read about the world and then draw their own conclusions. I was always taught that journalists were charged with writing the first rough draft of history. Now, history itself is one more ephemeral thing molded to fit the needs of a predetermined narrative.

What we've been saying about the MSM for some time now. It's real and their own are calling them out for it.

As places like The Times and other once-great journalistic institutions betray their standards and lose sight of their principles, Americans still hunger for news that is accurate, opinions that are vital, and debate that is sincere. I hear from these people every day. “An independent press is not a liberal ideal or a progressive ideal or a democratic ideal. It’s an American ideal,” you said a few years ago. I couldn’t agree more. America is a great country that deserves a great newspaper.

None of this means that some of the most talented journalists in the world don’t still labor for this newspaper. They do, which is what makes the illiberal environment especially heartbreaking. I will be, as ever, a dedicated reader of their work. But I can no longer do the work that you brought me here to do—the work that Adolph Ochs described in that famous 1896 statement: “to make of the columns of The New York Times a forum for the consideration of all questions of public importance, and to that end to invite intelligent discussion from all shades of opinion.

The Grey Lady, ruined by the illiberal mob controlling Groupthink there, and at every MSM outlet not named Fox News. Even now, they're doing everything they can to destroy Fox, including attacking advertisers, boycotting products and routinely running catfishing plots to try and catch someone in a honeypot at minimum. When Fox tries to be fair and balanced by asking a liberal to come on beside the conservative, the liberal shouts constantly during the conservative's turn, purposefully to make sure they're not being heard.

What drives humans to behave like this, all for ideology that itself is morally bankrupt? To "invite intelligent discussion from all shades of opinion" is anathema to them. This is why they organize protests on college campuses when so called conservatives come to speak and why they work full time on cancel culture initiatives, and why they bully and demean coworkers until they quit a hostile work environment.

As someone who has experienced similar workplace bully8ng (mob of other employees vindictively trying to get you to quit or get fired) I can relate.

My only job security is doing work almost no one else seems to want to do and cant/wont do it.

When you're used to getting a trophy for just showing up, learning to accept criticism, even light criticism, is impossible. I recently formed a supplement start up making one of those little known bio-hacking molecules, the employees ~30yo and under have no capacity to deal with even a tiny critique of their efforts. Me saying something like "what about if we tried this direction instead" in regards to their work is viewed as a personal attack. I'm having to grab every ego smoothing technique in my tool kit all the time just to keep moving forward.

'Learning to love yourself' has warped into 'fall in love with yourself', there's an ocean of difference between those two points.

While interesting in itself, I don't believe it applies to this instance since she was specifically hired to broaden their horizons after they were gobsmacked by Trump's election, which they never saw coming. Are there horrible millennials? No doubt about it. Did they have horrible parents? The magic eight ball says "highly likely".

The text of the letter I didn't quote here goes into specific details of what she endured. Is there a lawsuit coming? I doubt it, since she quit but it would serve them right. My son works in a hostile environment like she did, because he refuses to genuflect to the liberal agenda his manager pushes. He merely does his job, better than everyone around him and more competently than his boss ever could. He's complained, arguing that this is all outside the scope of his job and officially put the manager on notice. Do you think that changed anything? They don't dare fire him but the boss would love it if he quit. Of course then the place would fall apart, but the boss ain't that bright. Just wants Libs all around him and more Groupthink. All this has nothing to do with the job, which is technical and has zero political overtones. But these freaks are that messed up, wanting to control every element of everyone's lives or punish them if they can't. This is unhealthy in a company and unhealthy for our country. These people must be stopped by any and all means necessary. They're a plague.

hmmm, I have noted similar within this forum.

Your question is apt. To paraphrase; what drives you and others to decide your competitor is your mortal enemy?

IMO it all rolls together. First they started building self esteem that's not attached to any accomplishments other than 'you being you'. This is then rolled into the whole micro-aggression nonsense where every interaction is analyzed into oblivion for any minute negative effect on the fragile high self esteem. This fragility infects the entire group who band together and attack all perceived slights to the unfounded self esteem of the group as a whole. Each group then cannot emotionally deal with adverse opinions or critiques without falling apart due to the baseless high self esteem. We had Generation Kill now it's Generation Wussy.

💓You're projecting again Frankie sweetie, the CCP decided the US was it's mortal enemy not the other way around. If the US thought China was it's enemy in the past it never would have expanded a trading relation ship, facilitated your country's entry into the WTO or allowed access to our tech ecosystem. Your CCP was good at bamboozling the US in particular and the West in general for a long time, that time is over. Kisses :x

The question is how is it that these kids were raised that way. Uncompetitive, only a few capable of forming an opinion on their own, bullies touting their own pain. Somehow expecting a college major chosen for fun or virtue signaling to provide an income that would pay their student loans off. They didn't raise themselves, they were raised by boomers. How did they manage to raise such a generation of fearful adults conforming to their peers at all costs?

New York Times? I thought they were owned by the Sultzburger(sp?) family. I actually met the old man at a funeral.

You can’t get fired for posting anonymously on a forum such as this. You are comparing chalk to cheese.

How the leftists roll

The NYT has plans to dox Tucker Carlson and punish the family by outing their private address again. They sold the last house after they were attacked by antifa mobs. This is how the leftists roll. Defend yourself? Lefties will put you in prison. Ask the Mckluskeys.

I generally avoid this forum anymore unless I am looking for comic relief (many of the ‘old crew’ now avoid it for similar reasons), but sitting here drinking coffee and visiting the forum, I have noticed something odd...

During these difficult time in the States, with mobs running riot, hatred towards the law enforcement community, ‘trained Marxists’ highjacking the BLM movement, Antifa terrorizing at will, the ‘cancelling of American history, and so forth....I do not see where the Socialist/Communist liberal contributors are not gleefully contributing their views and opinions on this issue, on this forum....why is that?

We feel you. Now that every Trump lie can be debunked with footage archived on youtube, muddying waters is such a difficult discipline. For example Trump said: "I did a ban on China, I did a ban on Europe, I did an excellent job." No, he did not - and there are videos to prove it. So you have it too hard. It's emotionally and even physically draining. No amount of silly names like "lefties, antifa, antiamericans, negroes" is sufficient to muddle the difference between lies and facts.

As usual, you chose to deflect instead of addressing my final question in a mature manner...some things never change on OilPrice.

Your saying so does not constitute proof. I clearly remember the travel bans and the leftists outcry about them. Now you're playing 1984 and claiming you have video evidence it didn't happen? Are you playing with a memory hole or just talking out your nether hole?
