I have a novel idea let's talk about oil.

Let's face it  . . .  Nobody cares about oil anymore . . . .  maybe a few.

Dead for at least a couple of years.

There is only so much you can say about Exxon Guyana. As for Exxon valuation - (1) Exxon was late to shale oil and paid Bass Brothers Billions to buy in. (2)  Huge investment in Canadian Tar Sands with Imperial Oil, only wrote off about $3 billion.  That's nothing. Much more to come. (3) Paid $46 Billion for XTO .  Most was in PA/WV natural gas.  Chevron wrote off their business. Exxon needs to face reality. (4) Huge investment in Natural Gas project in Papua New Guinea.  Prices tanked. Hopefully comes back.  (5) Big investment in Iraq. Could get squeezed out by China.

As for oil in general it will be slow for a good while.  There are billions without the modern amenities.  In China alone "only" 300 million of their 1.4 billion have moved up to the middle class.  Then there is India. They will all need energy at some point.

It's anyone's guess :

Timing is everything.

Its the descend of Hydrocarbons vs the ascend of "New Technology".

* Germany going all in on hydrogen. I think they're wrong.

* Many smart people believe Fusion Nuclear is within sight 20 to 30 years.  I agree.

* Green ? To little doesn't scale well.

Oil will be around for a long time. However, the cost to produce a barrel of oil will continue to go down. How low ?

What fascinates me is how a sustained $50 oil price effects the Petro States. That could destabilize many regions on the world.

Much change is coming .  .  .  soon.  Politically, Economically, Internationally, Socially.

A lot to ponder

Nobody said no more political topics. I said no more political topics with extreme content or topics calling for racism, insults and attacks. We just want discussions on any topic to be conducted in a civilized manner, respecting other member's opinions. Is there anything wrong with that?

And Tom wasn't banned from this forum. He left. But he is more than welcome to come back again.

Tom  not banned .  .  .  but pushed out ?

I think it was a moral or integrity issues to Tom.  He's use to U.S.  norms. I'm guessing he believes in Freedom of the Press and the freedoms afforded to U.S.  citizens in the First Amendment as in Freedom of speech.

Anything to the right of moderate is stifled.  While crazy and despicable posts from Chinese apologists and extreme left agitators can post at will.

  Its your sandbox.
