Considering that just about every "news" organization conducts polls these days, and the fact that they only cite polls that agree with their narrative, there is no reason to blindly accept what the media says "the polls indicate"!

Errors in 2016 laid bare some real limitations of polling, even as clear-eyed reviews of national polls in both 2016 and 2018 found that polls still perform well when done carefully.

One way to help avoid a repeat of the skepticism about surveys that followed the last presidential election is to narrow the gap between perception and reality when it comes to how polling works. People have many notions about polling – often based on an introductory statistics class, but sometimes even less – that are frequently false. The real environment in which polls are conducted bears little resemblance to the idealized settings presented in textbooks.

Different polling organizations conduct their surveys in quite different ways. Survey methodology is undergoing a period of creative ferment. Currently, CNN and Fox News conduct polls by telephone using live interviewers, CBS News and Politico field their polls online using opt-in panels, and The Associated Press and Pew Research Center conduct polls online using a panel of respondents recruited offline. There is even a fourth group of pollsters that combine methods like robocalls and online surveying with opt-in samples. These different approaches have consequences for data quality, as well as accuracy in elections.

The barriers to entry in the polling field have disappeared. Technology has disrupted polling in ways similar to its impact on journalism: by making it possible for anyone with a few thousand dollars to enter the field and conduct a national poll. As with journalism, there are pluses and minuses to this democratization. There has been a wave of experimentation with new approaches, but there has also been a proliferation of polls from firms with little to no survey credentials or track record. In 2016, this contributed to a state polling landscape overrun with fast and cheap polls, most of which made a preventable mistake: failing to correct for an overrepresentation of college-educated voters, who leaned heavily toward Hillary Clinton. Some newcomer polls might provide good data, but poll watchers should not take that on faith.

A poll may label itself “nationally representative,” but that’s not a guarantee that its methodology is solid. When applied to surveys, the phrase “nationally representative” sounds like a promise of a poll’s trustworthiness. But the term doesn’t convey any specific technical information or come with any guarantees. Surveys can be sampled and adjusted to represent the country on certain dimensions, so any person can make this claim about any poll, regardless of its quality. Unfortunately, this is part of a broader trend in which the lingo used to promote surveys (“organic sampling,” “next-gen sampling” or “global marketplace,” for example) can on some occasions obscure flawed methodologies that lead to bias. Poll watchers would do well to focus on key questions for vetting polls, such as those included in this guide for reporters published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s SciLine, or Pew Research Center’s own field guide to polling.

The real margin of error is often about double the one reported. The notion that a typical margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points leads people to think that polls are more precise than they really are. Why is that? For starters, the margin of error addresses only one source of potential error: the fact that random samples are likely to differ a little from the population just by chance. But there are three other, equally important sources of error in polling: nonresponse, coverage error (where not all the target population has a chance of being sampled) and mismeasurement. Not only does the margin of error fail to account for those other sources of potential error, it implies to the public that they do not exist, which is not true.

Several recent studies show that the average error in a poll estimate may be closer to 6 percentage points, not the 3 points implied by a typical margin of error. While polls remain useful in showing whether the public tends to favor or oppose key policies, this hidden error underscores the fact that polls are not precise enough to call the winner in a close election.

To turn the question, do you believe any number of years of Biden/Harris would do any better? The policies they suggest would make worse every item the US population marked as a concern. And the existential threat to the world at large from China would not be addressed by Biden as it was not addressed by Obama, during who's term, China had the resurgence of the hardliner CCP leadership, the creation of the Xi dictatorship and massive security breaches into all civilian and military tech.companies with massive technology theft.

Read what @Dan Warnickabove had to say about poll's accuracy. All correct and all points I independently argued elsewhere before and after the 2016 election. I'd love to point back there and save typing but they disabled comments and wiped the site. 

But there is a poll that matters, having been replicated numerous times by numerous entities. That poll concerns Congress approval ratings. Given that democrats control the House, that 8% approval doesn't sound good does it?

Meanwhile in actual elections, I'm always amazed how democrats keep winning in locations where their politicians are hated. Makes me wonder just how many dead people are voting. This is of course why democrats are so focused on getting people registered to vote. They don't care if those people actually go out and vote, once Acorn got your name, even if it was Daffy Duck, come election day Daffy will duly vote from cartoon land for the Democratic ticket. In 2016 election pollsters believe there were 3% to 4% of Trump .supporters that hid their vote for Trump from polling firms.

Some believe that number has doubled today to 6% to 8%.

I watched her in an interview, and 3 points caught my attention and really turned me off:

1.  Illegal immigrants should never face ANY jail time, even while processing to deport.  Period.  Ever.

2.  She prosecuted and jailed over 1,500 people for marijuana possession.

3.  California does not have a drug problem; California has a homeless problem.  California should provide housing for the homeless 

So on the one hand, she jails people for the petty crime of smoking pot, while on the other hand she will give free housing to "homeless" people (pssst, 98% of the homeless in California do have a drug problem).

She made those statements only minutes apart, and was solid on them.  Let me think on that.....Nah, I don't think I'll be voting for her anytime soon.

According to the media's general judgment, 2020 U.S. voters are most concerned with purportedly complex issues of crime and justice. Voters should place no trust in this. This same media forbade itself to investigate a simple, yet objectively historic corruption scandal of national interest.

 

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has almost certainly committed the most extensive spree of felonies by a congressperson in U.S. history. As a criminal, she also appears to be historically inept. Scores of verified items of evidence against her are in the public record. Omar has never challenged their authenticity and has never produced a single piece of evidence to support her version of events.

She faces a primary on Tuesday. She again won her party's endorsement. She again won House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's endorsement — and her funding.

The mainstream media judges this remarkable situation to be irrelevant to Minnesota voters, let alone the dominant concern. Editorial malpractice on issues of crime, justice, and the 2020 election spreads everywhere this summer; by no coincidence, the spread can be traced to irresponsible media coverage of a deadly riot in Rep. Omar's district.

As a high-ranking officer in Somalia's (U.S.-backed) military from the 1970s until 1991, he was well known by this name and title.

In mid-June, Ilhan Omar's father tragically died from a COVID-19 infection. Expressions of grief, condolences, and prayers arrived from around the world, but particularly from the Somali-speaking immigrant community of Minneapolis and from the U.K. By all accounts, he earned his reputation as a gentle, kind neighbor, well known and beloved within Cedar-Riverside, as he had been in Somalia.

 

 

His relevance to Rep. Omar's landmark scandal is, of course, his birth name. Upon arriving in the United States in 1995, he claimed to be "Nur Omar Mohamed" and received a Social Security number with this name. However, all appeared to know him as Nur Said. He presented himself as Nur Said. Both Ilhan and her sister Sahra Noor referred to their father as Nur Said (prior to deleting the evidence). He is identified on-screen as "Nur Said, Ilhan's father" in the 2018 documentary film "Time for Ilhan" and again as "Nur Said" in the credits. Twice.

Most importantly, British citizen Leila Nur Said Elmi declared her father to be "Nur Said Elmi, military officer" on her 1997 marriage application. (Click the link to see the application and a photo of Leila Nur Said Elmi with both Ilhan and Nur Said.)

From 2009 until 2017, Ilhan Omar was married (by a Christian minister) to British citizen Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Somali naming customs are patrilineal and do not use family surnames. For example, "Ahmed Nur Said Elmi" implies that Ahmed's father is "Nur," his grandfather is "Said," and his great-grandfather is "Elmi."

Also from 2009 until 2017, Ilhan Omar lived with, raised three kids with, and illegally filed multiple joint tax returns with a second man — not Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

Just a couple months after marrying, Ilhan and her legal husband both enrolled at North Dakota State University and received federal financial aid. Married couples are not required to submit evidence of their respective parents' assets on FAFSA applications and thus likely receive much more favorable loan terms.

Almost certainly, Rep. Omar fraudulently married her brother, a British citizen, in the service of immigration fraud, education fraud, and federal student loan fraud. Along the way, she filed at least two years of fraudulent tax returns, and possibly eight. She lived in several different subsidized housing units during this time. She likely received subsidized health care and child care during this time. For eight years, every application she signed for state and federal aid was likely fraudulent. During her 2017 divorce from Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, Ilhan submitted a nine-question statement to the court signed under penalty of perjury. Literally — she signed just below the statement of acknowledgment. Eight of her nine answers appear to be perjurious. Each instance is punishable by up to five years' imprisonment.

The paperwork she signed for her successful 2016 run and two-year tenure as a Minnesota state representative may contain instances of perjury as well.

It appears that the media may be waiting for verifiable references to her father as "Nur Said Elmi" rather than "Nur Said." Logically, this should not be considered necessary, considering the following:

1. Ilhan's father and her father-in-law would have been named "Nur Said."
2. Only one "Nur Said" in the necessary age range appears in publicly available archives in either the U.S. or U.K.

However, here these references are. Below are dozens of new, verifiable, archived references to father as "Nur Said Elmi" from family, friends, and contacts. You will also find many new references to his daughter Leyla Nur Said Elmi, his son Mohamed Nur Said Elmi, and even to his son Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

Further, you will find the first-ever public references as to why Ilhan's father was well known by this name. He is referred to as Colonel Nur Said Elmi, who led the U.S.-backed "54th reserve brigade in the 60^th division" during the 1982 Ethiopian-Somali Border War. Colonel Nur is also said to have "led a regiment" in the 1977-1978 Ogaden War.

Abdirahman Issa Kahin owns and operates Afro Deli in Minneapolis. He is well known as a friend of the family — so much so that the Minnesota Star-Tribune interviewed him for its obituary:

He held several positions in civil service in the Somali government and worked for the postal service in Minneapolis after he came to the U.S. His nicknames in Cedar-Riverside were "Colonel" and "Superdad." Mohamed had a "huge" concept of family and was a father figure to many people in Cedar-Riverside, said Abdirahman Kahin, the owner of Afro Deli. "He was the father that everyone wanted to have," Kahin said. "Open-minded, listening, taking your phone number."

Note that Abdirahman Issa Kahin, like the Star-Tribune, is careful to refer to Ilhan's father as "Nur Omar."

However, he then referred to "Ilhan Omar, Leyla, and Sahra Nur." Leyla, of course, is Leyla Nur Said Elmi and had attested on her marriage application that her father is "Nur Said Elmi, military officer."

Also note the continued, transparent absurdity of the Star-Tribune's coverage. "Colonel" is said to only be his "nickname." And he simply worked in "civil service."

Meanwhile, Sahan Journal — an outlet founded in 2019 by a former Star-Tribune reporter in partnership with Minnesota Public Radio — filed a much different story, putting the Star-Tribune to shame. Though it also did not mention "Nur Said Elmi," it was the first outlet anywhere to finally confirm his former prominence in Somalia was due to his military career:

 

The article went on to bemoan the fact that "news stories about Nur's death have for the most part obscured his legacy, painting him as little more than Rep. Ilhan Omar's father. But Nur was a leader in his own right, and those who knew him well hailed him as a national treasure for Somalis at home and in the diaspora."

Clearly, there's an incredible amount of information worth unpacking in the Sahan Journal article. Since 2016, the Star-Tribune — and national media in general — chose to conceal this historic scandal from U.S. voters.

Their malfeasance is the only reason Rep. Omar is on the ballot this week in Minnesota. Our deadly national wave of riots began in this ill-served, media-neglected district.

My theory is most if not all politicians are cynical and opportunists but Harris is on another level when it comes to this. When asked whether she smoked marijuana she laughed. So she had no issues prosecuting people for things which she herself did. Her actions as AG of California were totally unnecessary if not criminal. She wasn't running for AG of Texas or some other conservative state where she would need to appear tough on crime. She would have been elected anyway in blue California. But no, she chose to keep people in prison longer than their sentences so they could be used as slave labor a la China. It really comes off as sadism and not simple cynicism.

The number of lives ruined for smoking a little weed, by the enforcement of laws made by politicians, and the amount of money spent needlessly for pursuing pot as a dangerous drug is incredible.  Stupid even.  NOW they legalize it.  Uh, ok.

And yet alcohol has been allowed, promoted, taxed and regulated since prohibition, and it ruins far more lives than pot ever could.

Back on topic.  Kamala Harris has a new video out within which she employs a new comedic tactic against her and Joe Biden's opponents: Take all actions, tactics and concerns for the American people, reverse them and say they're yours.

After watching this fine specimen of a video you will KNOW that Joe Biden is a visionary, a risk taker, and that she and Joe represent "the real America" and the "real Americans" and the "working man and woman", and, oh the list goes on and on.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump announces peace deal between the UAE and Israel.  Such small-mindedness!  In fact, depending on how you look at it, it is most likely a RACIST deal (sarcasm note, for idiots).

Pay attention to what is about to evolve...a republic is by far different than a democracy...Hint: The needs of the whole rather than the needs of the many. While that may seem a contradiction in terms it is a profound way to govern. To that point  the US only democratic Republic on this Earth.

It is sad that a intellect such a van Eck will no longer expound on such matters. His depth was astounding.
