Yes quite a world of abject BS we live in...is it not?  It lives in the same vein that Russia and Germany thrive in...Russia has huge gas contracts with Germany....and Germany wants US troops on the ground to support their way of life and cannot even meet there own obligations to the UN

Good for the German People, they do not need to be a welfare state of any dimension. While Germany has had some difficult history they also have made enormous contributions to the world. They are more than capable of independence and pride.

I am currently reading "No Higher Honour" by Condoleezza Rice.  She stated something about the Chinese/Iraq relationship during the Saddam era that I had not heard of before, and was quite concerning given the current view towards China (this passage is during the time after the 1st Iraq war and before the second one where Saddam was captured):

"The no-fly zones were just one part of a complex web of constraints that the international system relied upon to keep Saddam from attacking his neighbors and his people and prevent him from rebuilding his weapons of mass destruction (WMD). And those constraints were being undermined on multiple fronts. For example, the Chinese were building a fiber-optic system in and around the capital, making it harder to track Iraq’s military communications. Saddam was finding new ways to shield his forces."
