China goes ultra-nationalist from time to time, riling the citizenry into a fevered state against the world, and it is far more effective than one might think.  I've seen it firsthand.  It is indeed mostly for internal consumption and has the secondary, and some would say more important, effect of reminding every individual to get in line.  They might be heading for closure to at least parts of the outside world once again.

I think closure is probably correct. They will trash their economy in favor of control. The big question is if the west will let them rule Taiwan and Hong Cong even if it means war. What will Trump do, or Biden for that matter. 
The US will not give up the China Sea. 
Fortunately India, Japan, S Korea, Australia and others are seeing the China danger. Europe will come around in time. Hope Trumps lobbies to kick China out of the WTO and the UN to kickstart the conclusion of a major power out of control.

The world then can introduce Russia to the new world order. Your with us or not. No more hacking, hand holding Iran messing with Syria. In return the US should pull most troops around the world like the Balkan, Poland etc. An economic penalty should be the norm in the form of dropped trade for infractions is the stick. 
like pull out of Middle East and you get your pipeline to Europe, etc etc. is the carrot. It’s not rocket science. 
Civilized behavior should be rewarded and conflict countries isolated and dropped from trade.
