Venezuela Election Won by Maduro Amid Widespread Disillusionment

Recommended Posts

President Nicolás Maduro won a second term as president of Venezuela, a country in the midst of a historic economic collapse marked by soaring prices, widespread hunger, rampant crime, a failing health system and a large-scale exodus of its citizens. Electoral officials declared Mr. Maduro the victor Sunday night, in a contest that critics said was heavily rigged in his favor. In the capital and around the country, the turnout was extremely low, with more than half of voters not casting ballots, reflecting both a call from many opposition leaders for a boycott of the vote and the disillusionment of longtime government supporters. Indeed,  Maduro's win very soon could be his defeat: the collapse of the country is more than certain and regime can't survive new sanction....

It was a sham election, people didn’t show up on purpose.

Won (in Maduro's example) is such a curious choice of words.

Maduro got the win.... but seen from many points of views for example if the results were in some way accurate and fair, 5.800.000 or so votes for Maduro is not that much compared to that time of Chavez when he was president and alive.. Participation was only at 47% first time ever this turnout was so low for a presidential election in Venezuela.. empty voting centers. so in the end one can see that the calling for no vote by the traditional opposition parties worked to which it joined Henri Falcon (a little too late?} when he not recognised the elections before the results were given by the authorities and requesting for a new election.. So what lies ahead for venezuela and its oil industry will be extremely interesting and crucial  in the coming days, weeks, and months.. Either Maduro carries out deep economic reforms and an overhaul of the system or he can forget of clinging too much in power. Lets see the strategy of the international community and the opposition.

Sanctions are not against Maduro, cause many will starve, die of disease because they can’t get medical treatment, etc. it will destabilize a country that’s on the edge and the results could be catastrophic for the region.

In my opinion, the Venezuelan people need help not sanctions.

In a blistering statement, the 14-nation “Lima Group” of countries in the Americas from Canada to Brazil, said it did not recognize the legitimacy of the vote and would be downgrading diplomatic relations.  China and Russia, which have both poured money into Venezuela in recent years, were also unlikely to join in the international condemnation. EU will not support Maduro's regime...from before U.S. Who will stand behind his re-election? Regional leftist allies of Venezuela, from Cuba to Bolivia, sent their congratulations.

Thank you all for the support to my country in its darkest and most crucial hours... Now Trump administration imposed new sanctions on PDVSA and Maduro... I frankly dont think Maduro will survive this year and some new developments are expected and on the horizon.. Time for the opposition to get real and serious about this golden opportunity to take decisive actions to remove this disastrous dictatorship from power! And sincerely i dont believe China and Russia will get their nose to protect this really disastrous regime at all, they only care for their financial investments, period.
