Canadian Northern B.C. gas pipeline designed to supply LNG industry wins NEB approval

Surprising to me, I thought the Canadian government was still intent on listening to the "keep oil and gas in the ground" mob, and the "pipelines are Satan's work" pitch fork lynch mob.

Northern B.C. gas pipeline designed to supply LNG industry wins NEB approval

CALGARY — The National Energy Board has approved construction of a natural gas pipeline originally intended to supply the Pacific NorthWest LNG export terminal near Port Edward, B.C., even though that $36-billion project was cancelled last July.

... The approval allows TransCanada to construct the majority of its North Montney Mainline project at a cost of about $1.4 billion, allowing it to bring gas from northern B.C. through 300 kilometres of pipeline to connect with existing pipe about 35 kilometres southwest of Fort St. John, B.C.

Attitudes towards natural gas are a bit different, seemingly because BC has fairly substantial gas reserves of its own and is planning on building numerous multi billion dollar LNG terminals on its coast. Some of the projects were deferred or cancelled, but some fairly big ones are still on the table.

It appears that BC stands to gain much more from this than the KM project, thus their cooperation.

Aw, but LNG is so much greener than crude. I'm sure B.C.'s gas reserves and potential gains have nothing to do with their support for LNG.
