In a normal political environment, if a party's presidential candidate, running for reelection in this case, had delivered a triple play loss--White House, Senate and the House--to the other party, there would have been a reckoning, and a search for a new leader. However, given Trump's successful "Big Lie" efforts to convince a majority of Republicans that the election was stolen by the rascally Democrats, Trump is effectively causing the GOP to double down on the delusional Big Lie approach that led to the Democrats controlling the White House, the Senate and the House. I suppose that one sense, the Trump Crazies are effectively supporting the Democratic Party's efforts in 2022 and 2024, but I would think that even Democrats would agree that it can't be good for the future of the country for a majority of the GOP to believe in things that simply are not true--with January 6th being an obvious example of what can go wrong. The grid meltdown, or should I say the freeze up of mainly gas pipelines feeding Nat Gas power plants and then Ted fleeing to Mexico shows that the GOP in Texas will have a rocky road in 2022 and 2024. If Beto runs against Cruz in 2024, I expect Cruz to lose as Cancungate will not be forgotten. Texas has a hard choice right now to get rid of their island mentality and join the regional US grid or to really regulated all energy (IE real planning for electrical production and real oversight. Cuomo helped his crony benefactors by signing a bill to mandate elderly Covid patients be moved to nursing homes. 4. There were reports of some Nursing Homes squeezing 3 or 4 single beds into what previously a singles room that should contain one patient (4 x $800 =$3200/day per room) 5. Then Cuomo signed a bill indemnifying the Nursing Homes from liability. $800/day vs. $200/day Do you need to know anything else ? 6. Governor Cuomo and Mayor DeBlasio refused to use the Medical ship Trump retrofitted and delivered to NYC or the emergency hospital bed facilities Trump built at the Javits Center and other venues. Both equipped with ventilators. Campaign contributors don't make money there. According to the ambulance drivers accounts during the Nursing Home patients last days as the covid virus consumed them, the patients were loaded into an ambulance, not told where they were going and delivered to a hospital acute care facility where they died alone without family by their side. Many times the family wasn't informed till after the fact. Also, the average Medicare patient payment to a hospital for a patient with complex respiratory condition was $13,297. That has been increased for covid complex respiratory conditions to $39,000. You know what's next. Respiratory conditions that were the result of something like pneumonia were now classified as Covid. One family in California lost their mother to cancer . When the family received the death certificate it stated "Covid" . Cuomo assistant told fellow Democrats they lied about nursing home deaths by half because they were worried about the U.S. Department of Justice hearing about the excessive Nursing Home death rates. It's not A or B, you are allowed to have more than one opinion, hyperpartisanship isn't very pragmatic in the real world. The weather, like everything else is political because it is fundamental allocation of resources problem (but as is the case with everything, it depends on what tradeoffs you choose). Now, perhaps you can have your cake and eat it too by not having a physically separated grid (this just leads to this type of possibility when there are shocks), when financially, it is definitely not (because we all share the same atmosphere and currency system). It's sort of why the Articles of Confederation didn't work out, and the Constitution did relative to the ability to conduct commerce. All the left media blasting Cruz (deserved) . . . . but where were they when Pelosi , Newsom and Whitmer were violating their own rules ? Cruz was wrong. He apologized to his constituents. At least he didn't kill thousands of constituents like Cuomo. Cuomo created the death Nursing Homes to please his donors. Cuomo created the cover-up. And Cuomo apologized to NY Dems for getting caught, not the families whose loved ones he killed. The only ones that think Gov did a good job are himself, brother Fredo and Dr. Fauci. Most US citizens would be well aware of the fact state Govnerors call in FEMA which this governor actually has. Abbot may be gulty of not overseeing the reliability of the grid but that was ERCOT's responsibility. A governor cannot be expected to know every industry better than the experts already in it. Once true errors are discovered it is his job to find the correct solutions. I would like to know who in Texas was advocating for additional measures to protect against cold weather shutdowns.
