Well, this thread somewhat paradoxically put a smile on my face, which I didn't think I would have today, what with the news and the perpetual embarrassment of watching Mr. Biden unravel before our eyes. I reckon Texas is in a temporary supply bind. 

This all started with insane incentives for wind and solar. A poorly understood clause is that a state has to give up a fossil fuel unit in exchange for a renewable energy incentive. In the case of Texas, six (6) coal-fired utility plants were decommissioned in exchange for lots of money for wind--in just the last two years. On the energy pyramid, coal is currently the lowest, the most primitive, but also the most reliable. Those six units would have made the difference between a weather event and an existential crisis.

Texas is currently undergoing a come-to-Jesus meeting involving ERCOT, the Texas Public Utility Commission, Governor Abbott and the various operators that feed energy into the ERCOT brokerage. This mess exemplified how utterly necessary reliable energy really is. Furthermore, there is a shock value: the ERCOT grid almost went down entirely, in which case a "black start" would have been necessary. I doubt that anyone in the entire grid has had experience with a black start. Most people tell you that it would take months. 

Mixing threads is on the same level of clumsiness as mixing metaphors, but with that caution in mind, it should be noted that the USA is setting itself up for a number of potential disasters. For example, on another excellent thread, we have no reliable source for domestically-generated REE's, a fact which could undermine the national security system. A year into a pandemic started by our greatest threat, we are still buying almost all of our prescription medications precursors from China. The renewable energy market with its corruptive incentives threatens the basic premise of well-being, but it's only one of several threats growing before our eyes.

By Monday afternoon, amid continued widespread outages, Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted: "The Texas power grid has not been compromised. The ability of some companies that generate the power has been frozen. This includes the natural gas & coal generators. They are working to get generation back on line. ERCOT & PUC are prioritizing residential consumers."
 

Before we go deciding which power generation did well and which didn’t why don’t we wait for the reports. I have to react to Trumpisms to often. I bet coal is the main culprit. But at some point we’ll see.

We had regulations against China making our pharmaceuticals. In the enact one regulation and kill three big pharma quickly moved to China. It’s a rumor that needs a report.

Where is Ward in this investigation. How many of those board members on ERCOT were Democrats or Republicans. Or does he know and just can’t say. 🤣  What are their backgrounds. Was Mr Pillow involved? Are there connections to Venezuela. When Chavez was on his deathbed did he whisper, get those windmills installed, glory to scocialism.

I have a feeling that describing certain recent policies as 'Neanderthal Thinking' does a disservice to the Neanderthals. I suspect they would know better. We have to drop to a level where the life form can't formulate a complex grammatical expression. This might be at the level of a paramecium.
