First Brazil variant , Now India "Double Mutant" Covid. Govt says vaccine works against U.K. & South African strains. Nothing about Brazil or India mutations ? Why ?

Don't get too complacent yet.

Both the Brazilian and India mutations are Now in the United States.

It is believed these two versions are (1) more contagious/transmittable (2) affect younger age groups (3) carry higher viral load (4)  are more deadly (5) can reinfect those that have already had the original Covid. (6) current vaccines are not effective against them.

The "authorities" are very selective as to which information they release.

Hope for the best .  .  .  Prepare for the worst.

Am I being overly cautious and worrisome ?  I hope so.

Like other responsible scientists, government health officials cannot make announcements without some data to back them up. You provide a sentence that starts with "it is believed" and then makes six assertions. Because these two strains of the virus are very recent, there is simply not enough data to make firm statements about them. As soon as there is data, CDC and others will tell us what they can, so yes, they are being "selective": they are "selecting" fact-based information and rejecting speculation.  Until there is useful information, the best they can do is attempt to extrapolate as best they can based on experience with the prevalent strains.

Researchers speculate wildly among themselves. It's part of the scientific process to start with a hypothesis and then try to prove or refute it. This means that an over-eager reporter can usually find a researcher to interview, hear the speculations, and then selectively report it as fact: "it is believed that ..."

No you are not being overly cautious. When you do not have good information about a threat, you should assume the worst. When you stop your car at a stoplignt in a neighborhood you are unfamiliar with, you keep the doors locked, because it MIGHT be a bad neighborhood, even though almost all neighborhoods are good neighborhoods. We know coronaviruses are airborne and we have some idea as to the environments in which they spread, so general advice (social distancing, wear a mask) is basically certain to be useful for these variants. Washing hands and wiping surfaces have not been shown to be very useful for the old strains, but basically all experts keep recommending them because they might be useful for the old strains, and we do not yet know if they are useful for the new strains.

Biden is as stupid as Trump for not shutting down the airlines and allowing these variants through the borders. You can’t claim God anymore. He dumped Trump. Biden kicked his butt. Not that it will slow religious conspiracy. They are countiously resilient in all manners of weird shyt.

Disagree

From the beginning of this pandemic  government has held back information and at times made statements as fact while the information which they released was were guessing.

Just look at Dr Fauci statements.  A friend had some symptoms the end of February.  At that time Dr.Fauci said the virus is not that serious , do not go to Hospital.  He said we are still in the midst of the Flu season.  He added that you can not catch Covid through the air (aerosol), but rather only by direct physical contact.

My friend listened to Fauci's advice. Two nights later he woke in the middle of the night gasping for air.  He had strained breathing and had to be rushed to the hospital.  He had Covid.

The government isn't the solution, it's the problem

Quote

Apparently, the optics of standing by and allowing the virus to succumb to herd immunity, something that would undoubtedly have been horrifically portrayed, given the media of today, was too much when held up against the predictably greater loss of life caused by the response.  Why else would the CDC chose this path?  It did it because those running it knew that the media would hide or obfuscate the costs of the response.  They did it because the deeply entrenched bureaucrats within the department hated their president and worried about his re-election.

The most shocking result of the COVID-19 response is the ease with which United States citizens gave up their freedoms.  Americans just said "sure!" when the government arbitrarily took away our ability to run our businesses, attend church and school, and move freely.  Even when the rules and regulations were shown to be more destructive than beneficial, they acquiesced.  Even when the media bias was glaringly apparent, Big Tech was found to be using the pandemic to extend their power, and science was nakedly politicized, they bent over and took it.  They said "OK" when mainstream media, Big Tech, and college campuses used cancel culture to silence critics.

Most disturbingly, they suspended their need for truth.  They chose not to interfere with the narratives being pushed by government, media, tech, and academia, despite the ever more obvious lies.

A lie told a thousand times becomes the truth, or so we were warned by Joseph Goebbels, the famed Nazi.  So, we give up what it means to be an American to go along with the lies.  We give up our desire to use our own free will and be responsible for our choices.  And we give up our rights as Americans and obey a federal government that is following an unconstitutional agenda.

Actually Mr. Ward I am beginning to find this entire catastrophe very disturbing. This virus the WUHAN VIRUS has in part taken down a American President, turned our professional community into a bunch of blathering political idiot's. American news outlets are sensationalizing this WUHAN VIRUS at every possible turn.  A nation has lost 500000 people the world has lost 2.7 Million people due to the WUHAN VIRUS.....

This WUHAN VIRUS has caused death, discord and chaos across the planet. We must stop venting our anger and rage towards each other, citizens of the US and the world need to come together and unite to beat this WUHAN VIRUS the damage it is doing goes far beyond sickness and death, it is fracturing the very fabric of the world civilization.

Call a spade a spade..the WUHAN VIRUS and all the veins of discord...

A opinion only...a time for deep reflection is needed.

FROM THE ASHES I WILL RISE.

I would like to look at those statements. Do you have a link to any of them I could use? February 2020 was very early in the pandemic, before the first 100 deaths in the US.

Did Dr. Fauci Say There Was ‘Nothing to Worry About’ in Regards to COVID-19?

Accusations that Dr. Anthony Fauci said it was "safe" to go to the movies and gym in late February 2020 ignored key facts about the coronavirus outbreak at that time.

Nancy Pelosi encouraged people to party at Chinatown in San Francisco.

But no worries, the Irish government admits in court there's no proof Covid even exists

According to the page you linked to, you are looking at the selective interpretation that the interviewers applied during an interview with Fauci on 29 Feb 2020. At the time, there were 70 known cases in the US and no known community spread. Fauci said it was safe to go continue with our lives but that this could change as new information came in. What do you think he should have said?

@Roch Which of these 70 cases was your friend? Where in the country was he?

Mr Clemmensen it is my opinion only highly trained professionals stick to there highly trained field. Attempting to define public policy in any manner is far beyond their wheel house. Faucci lost his objectivity the moment he went public. Yes I am discrediting him merely for his attempt to define public policy.

Yes, I do.

Fauci is a charlatan when it comes to Covid.

Just like his buddy Gov Andrew Cuomo.
