I agree that VW has more experience in making mass production cars, but Tesla has more in making EVs. Even VW brand CEO said Tesla has abilities Volkswagen lacks

Yes they made a mistake but they are doing their best to make it up. One of their next challenges is motorsport. VW is working on electric Pikes Peak programe. Since World RX Global Rand American-based Global Rallycross Championship have indicated that they will introduce an electric category, VW is looking for potential RX electrification.
