Siemens Gamesa Starts Building Hot Rock Plant for Long Duration Grid Storage

This wind turbine manufacturer began building a 30 megawatt-hour precursor for a gigawatt-scale thermal energystoragesystem. It will use industry-standard heaters and the heat will be used to drive a 1.5 megawatt steam turbine feeding electricity back to ther grid.

Heating rocks to 600 degrees with electricity excess and then creating a steam to drive a generator and feed electricity back to the grid when it-s needed.  Great application of thermal usage.
