it's a little interesting to read polarized opinions.............

Like a tropical kid would be frightened when the sky turned absurdly dark, suddenly, at 4 p.m. or surprised with delight to find the sun still shined at 9.30 p.m., we could be in fear if what we have been having on large scale suddenly overshadowed; or surprised with delight shall what we would like to see is granted for a longer period.

The drivers of the disparity might be what we are thinking.......

1. some oil fields are expected to have merely 50 years of reserve, more than 20 years ago. Alternatives to petroleum as fuel are sought after in a panic rush.......... Solar is pushed hard as the sunlight is free, abundant, although not evenly distributed/ available  through out geographical areas.

2. pollution, global warming have been somehow linked to burning of fossil fuel. Cleaner, greener technologies and alternatives are sought after.

So, we blame the vehicles, industries etc that are using fossil fuel. But very often, a few things slipped, by chance or on purpose.......

a) road congestion might be the cause of micro-climate change (localized increment of temperature). By having a better planning to reduce it, the air would be fresh again, e.g. during lock down.

- plans of 5 to 10 years, commonly used by private companies to set their achievable goals or missions, have been popularly copied by the governments to set their development plans. However, there might be a need to reinspect this strategy. Roads changed every few years with more adjunct traffic lights, pop up town sheds or high rises etc reduce the efficiency of the initial plan, waste fuel, cause pollution and heat accummulation during traffic stagnancy, reported to have caused civilized sickness e.g. constipation, bladder issue from holding pee in slow moving traffic, modern slavery of overtime without additional pay (including time taken to arrive half an hour to an hour earlier and back late to avoid jam) etc.

b) heavy development with many redundant, some of lower quality factories and other properties, particularly in the developing countries. Waste of fuel, waste of energy, waste of food if much unsold, waste of space formerly probably occupied by trees etc

 

Although in a panic, in a rush for change and for alternatives, we love to challenge the hard part and forgo the easier........... would it be worth it at the end, as mentioned by Ecocharger??

The documents also revealed that Tesla plans to expand the press shop by adding two more press lines. The company also plans to reduce the body shop into one production line.

Until July 17, the modifications are accessible to the public, who can raise objections to the changes until August 16. An electric bus made by Proterra went up in flames while charging in a California city that is reportedly thinking about removing the electric buses from the road.

The Washington Free Beacon reportedFriday:

The Foothill Transit agency, which serves the valleys surrounding Los Angeles, will decide on Friday whether costly Proterra buses purchased in the last decade are still operable. Problems cited by the agency include not only the bus that caught fire in what’s described as a “thermal event,” but also buses that melt in the California heat and have transmission failures. Roland Cordero, the agency’s director of maintenance and vehicle technology, says the problems with the buses are exacerbated by Proterra’s inability to help with repairs.

“With the number of failures we are experiencing and the inability of Proterra to provide parts, these [Battery Electric Buses] BEBs will only get worse as we continue to operate them whenever the BEBs are available for service,” Cordero wrote prior to Friday’s executive board meeting.

According to the Proterra website, its vehicles have “proven themselves through more than 20 million miles of service in communities across North America, operating at a lower overall cost than a 35- or 40-foot diesel, hybrid, or CNG transit vehicle.”

However, the electric bus company that has been praised by President Joe Biden’s administration watched its stock drop over the past month due to reports of problems with its product, the Beacon article continued:

In Philadelphia, mechanical failures and weak battery performance forced city officials to shelve buses received as recently as 2019. In Duluth, Minnesota, the buses were taken off the road because their brakes couldn’t handle the city’s hills. Wireless EV Charging Roads To Begin Testing Soon In Indiana, US

By using magnetised concrete slabs, roads would be able to charge compatible battery-powered electric vehicles driving over it Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Purdue University, have announced that they are planning to start the development of contact-less wireless-charging concrete pavement highway segment. This project is a part of the ASPIRE (Advancing Sustainability through Power Infrastructure for Road Electrification) initiative, and the tech is being developed in association with German startup Magment.
