ERCOT: Texas Is Ready For The Winter

Governor Abbot says there is no guarantee.   Power plant cooling problems from 2020 aren't fixed.  It takes time an money and an operator who realizes that there is a problem. Also the SVR's that supply reactive power for the Panhandle Loop  have not been replaced completely. We will get a 'stress test' later this week.  Maybe not quite as bad as what we had last February, but close enough that some of the new plans that were set in place will get exercised, and if there are shortcomings they will be clearly visible.   https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/592022-texas-grid-operator-warns-electricity-demand-could-near-records-during

Should be a good 'stress test' especially since unlike the storm last year, this one has been in the forecast for some time.  With back to back winter storm emergencies, perhaps this will build some institutional memory into the people who run the power plants and grids.

  Supposed to be 15 F in Forth Worth.  wonder if the new GE Warranty replacements are any better than last year.  Fortunately I am 400 ft from the Key children's home so my power should be safe. I do worry about SAWS. I lost water last time.  they still have problems from 2011 they haven't fixed.

Well 2011 came back to haunt again.  But weather wasn't as bad. Fewer freeze offs and Southwestern Public Service and Golden Spread electric coop had extra power out of New Mexico and Lubbock to prop up the ERCOT Panhandle loop so we didn't lose all of our wind this time.  Still had 50,0000 people out of service at dawn yesterday.
