However, the oil and gas industry, in addition to coal companies, have historically contributed far more to Republicans than to Democrats. Nearly 90 percent of oil and gas contributions in 2016 went to Republicans. For the coal industry, those numbers are closer to nearly 100 percent

"DNC is banning contributions from the fossil fuel industry."  This is just dumb.  Oil & Gas will continue for decades to be important in the American economy.  In fact, NatGas production, in particular, seems to be on an upward ramp.  NatGas & NGLs are cheap on the Gulf Coast, new chemical plants are opening there regularly to take advantage.  The plants employ folks directly and indirectly.   Now the Democrats want to ignore this segment of the population?  Makes no sense whatsoever.  The story about Texas slowly going blue may need to be revised.  African-American, Latino, & Muslim voters with ties to the energy & petrochemicals chemicals industries will not vote for a party that's against those industries.  They'll do as Harry Truman suggested and vote for their paychecks.

As far as the fossil industry businessmen contributing to the Republican party in 2016, that's just their paychecks again.  There is a substantial element in the Democratic Party that is loudly outspoken against fossil fuels.  The industries they oppose  are undergoing a huge, historical expansion. Those industries'  exports are rapidly growing in value.  My guess is that there will be a changing of the guard, and Democratic leadership with more sense will emerge.  Or a third party will emerge, capturing voters turned away by the nut-cases leading both parties.  I further suggest that a key plank in that party will be practical steps to return manufacturing to the USA.   The offshoring of manufacturing is not historically or economically inevitable. It's happening because government leaders in this country are failing  to heed the will of the citizenry.

I guess the DNC isn't taking the money directly, but Democratic candidates are still doing so.  

In a liberal city where a democrat is going to win no matter what, might as well have a pro-oil democrat a less anti-oil democrat win.
