Putin wants Ukraine Natural Gas ? Water restarted to CRIMEA ?

One article said a nat gas field in the Ukraine was the 14 th biggest find ever. She’ll and another west drilling co started to drill but was stopped by Russia taking Crimea. Do a Google. Apparently there is history there. That video Serupt33 claimed there was nat gas out the ass. I saw a graphic map with two fields in the Ukraine and several pools dotting the Black Sea.

Yes, I'm in the oil and gas industry, and I haven't seen anything credible.  Do you have any data?  I realize the gas in place in shale formations in Ukraine is in theory quite large, but I havent' seen ANY assessment that it is producible or economic.  There has been some exploratory natural gas drilling off the coast, but no discoveries large enough to justify development yet.

Russia–Ukraine gas disputes left many countries with a significant drop in their supplies when Russia cut off all natural gas supplies passing through Ukraine in 2009 and 2006.[27][33]

Shale gasEdit

Ukraine has Europe's third-largest shale gas reserves at 1.2 trillion cubic meters (tcm).[20] There are two potentially large shale gas fields.[20] The Yuzivska gas field located in Donetsk Oblast (province) and Kharkiv Oblast; and the Olesska field in Lviv Oblast and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast.[20] Ukraine signed a shale gas 50-year production sharing agreement with Royal Dutch Shell on 25 January 2013 involving the Yuzivska gas field.[3][25] The $10 billion deal was the largest foreign direct investment ever for Ukraine.[25] Full shale gas production depends on successful results from 15 test wells.[25]Ukraine expects commercial shale gas extraction in 2017.[34][nb 7] On 13 September 2013 Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov stated that the (containing all expenditures) price of shale gas will be $120–130 per 1,000 cubic meters.[35]

By 2030 a production of 6-11 bcm of shale gas a year is wanted by the Ukrainian Government plans.[3]

Excluding Russia’s gas reserves in Asia, Ukraine today holds the second biggest known gas reserves in Europe. As of late 2019, known Ukrainian reserves amounted to 1.09 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, second only to Norway’s known resources of 1.53 trillion cubic meters. Yet, these enormous reserves of energy remain largely untapped. Today, Ukraine has a low annual reserve usage rate of about 2 percent. Moreover, more active exploration may yield previously undiscovered gas fields, which would further increase the overall volume of Ukraine’s deposits.

Russian rouble plunges to new low in Moscow as sanctions tighten

March 2 (Reuters) - The rouble plunged to a record low in Moscow on Wednesday of 110 to the dollar and the stock market remained closed as Russia's financial system staggered under the weight of Western sanctions imposed over Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

The rouble fell 4.7% to 106.02 against the dollar in Moscow trade , earlier hitting 110.0, a record low. It has lost about a third of its value against the dollar since the start of the year.

It had shed 2.6% to finish the day at 115.40 to the euro .

"The rouble volatility remains extremely high which could be caused by instability of forex sales by exporters along with still increased levels of stress of market players and households in particular," Raiffeisen said in a note.

For the third day in a row, the rouble was weaker outside Russia, trading at 112 to the dollar on the EBS electronic trading platform, but still off an all-time low of 120 hit on Monday.

Russia has responded by doubling interest rates to 20% and telling companies to convert 80% of their foreign currency revenues on the domestic market as the central bank, or CBR, which is now under Western sanctions, has stopped foreign exchange interventions.

The weak rouble will hit living standards in Russia and fan already high inflation, while Western sanctions are expected to create shortages of essential goods and services such as cars or flights.

Many international companies have announced plans to exit Russia, while the country's credit ratings are coming under pressure as a result of the crisis.

Credit rating agency Moody's said: "The placement of Russia's sovereign ratings on review for downgrade was triggered by Russia's further military operation in Ukraine which started on 24 February 2022, and reflects the negative credit implications for Russia's credit profile from the additional and more severe sanctions being imposed."

JP Morgan said there was a deep recession in the making for Russia and the bank was re-assessing its regional macro forecasts.

"The most recent measures targeting the CBR have completely changed the picture," JP Morgan said.

"Russia's large current account surplus could have accommodated large capital outflows, but with accompanying CBR and SWIFT sanctions, on top of the existing restrictions, it is likely that Russia's export earnings will be disrupted, and capital outflows will likely be immediate."

Several Russian banks have been barred from the SWIFT global financial network that facilitates transfers between banks.

As households and businesses in Russia have rushed to convert the falling rouble into foreign currency, banks raised rates for foreign currency deposits.

Russia's largest lender Sberbank (SBER.MM) is offering to pay 4% on deposits of up to $1,000, while the largest private lender Alfa Bank is offering 8% on three-month dollar deposits. For rouble deposits, Sberbank offers a 20% annual return.

Sberbank said on Wednesday it was quitting almost all European markets, blaming big cash outflows and threats to its staff and property, after the ECB ordered the closure of its European arm. read more

Moscow calls its actions in Ukraine a "special operation" that it says is not designed to occupy territory but to destroy its southern neighbour's military capabilities and capture what it regards as dangerous nationalists.

The weak rouble will hit living standards in Russia and fan already high inflation, while Western sanctions are expected to create shortages of essential goods and services such as cars or flights. read more

This has only a theoretical significance anymore. There are no Western goods left, for which anybody needs dollar or euros anymore. All the Western brands are leaving the country. Some while pocketing users balances. One hand giveth, another takes away? Overall results cancel out. Russian Paralympics are banned from competing now. How low can you stoop?

This is contestable, because nobody in Ukraine really knows. What is known is that those are small patches. The major ones are depleted. (Ukraine was the original source of Soviet gas exported to the West) Fracking in Donbass (like what this Burisma shop who sponsored Hunter was doing) apparently produced zilch (It is a region where they have most of their coal. Which often comes with gas) Do coal mines always produce some methane? This is why they keep blowing up.

This produced nothing. The Burisma company who paid Hunter did that. Is coal always associated with methane? How much? There is certainly some methane is coal mines of Donbass. Major security threat.

The entire Donetsk Oblast is now claimed by the DNR.

This is the company which was extracting all the Crimean gas, with some stats

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chornomornaftogaz

gas.crimea.ru domain might be blocked from the West right now, so I can't really tell to what extent it is still operational. I heard, most of the rigs got removed on the account of being too small-time.

There is also a UNCITRAL Arbitration Case about this. Not sure if it's been resolved, but the sums involved were pretty petty. So, get this. Ukraine sued Russia under mutual Investor Protection Treaty and got paid. For all or most properties seized in Crimea which were Ukrainian governments. This, arguably, makes the legal status of Russia in Crimea that of foreign investor from the point of UN! So, not sure why they did that. All the cases were pretty petty, except for one called Ochadbank, which is some kind of savings and loan co-op which only had a single Crimean branch. That one was worth cool $2 bln. Dunno why that is. In the big scheme of things, not very smart of Ukraine, because the value of the properties they expropriated from Russian investors is much more and includes all of their domestic refinery capacity (expropriated not by the government, but by some structures affiliated to PrivatBank owned by oligarch Kolomoyski, from Tatneft, majority owned by Republic of Tatarstan, a regional entity) Privat has since been nationalized as too large to fail. Who owes what to whom now? Uncle Sam thinks Kolomoyski owes cool $5 trillion to him, according to filings in Delaware Chancellory court. The guy is still afloat only because he spilled all the dirt he had on all the other Ukrainian oligarchs (so, he's like a crown witness under a RICO Act)

Tell me, is there always methane where there is coal? There is certainly some that occurs in coal mines of Donbass. Not a popular appearance, to say the least.

Yes, there is always methane where there is coal.  Not always an amount that makes economic sense as an energy source, but it's always there.

Russian Stocks Are Nearly Worthless as Ukraine Sanctions Bite

Updated March 2, 2022 5:29 pm ET / Original March 2, 2022 12:25 pm ET

The Barron's Dailyim-235245?width=619&height=413

Russian stocks traded in the global financial center of London have plunged in value. Above right, the London Stock Exchange.Simon Dawson/Bloomberg Some Russian companies have recently been valued at more than a $100 billion. Now, they are penny stocks.

The London market has doled out severe punishments on some of Russia’s largest businesses. Traders are dumping shares in response to tough new sanctions punishing Moscow for the invasion of Ukraine.

While Russia’s stock market has been closed for days by order of the country’s central bank, the dollar-denominated secondary listings of Russian companies in London are still trading. The destruction of market value is astonishing.

Shares in Sberbank (ticker: SBER.U.K.), Russia’s largest bank, have collapsed more than 99% since mid-February, when its stock traded at around $14. In Wednesday London trading, the shares bottomed out at 1 cent and notched an 85% one-day fall.

The bank, which recorded assets of more than $500 billion as of December, had a market capitalization of more than $102 billion six months ago, according to Dow Jones Market Data. It is now less than $190 million, based on a total extrapolated from the London listed-shares.

Similar action was seen across Russia’s energy behemoths.

Stock in the oil giant Rosneft (ROSN.U.K.) has crumbled 90% in the past two weeks to be worth less than a dollar, while Lukoil ’s (LKOD.U.K.) share price has crumbled some 99.7% over the same period. Lukoil stock touched 25 cents in late-afternoon London trading.

The two companies had a combined market capitalization of more than $140 billion as of September. Lukoil’s market cap stood at just $293 million by Wednesday with Rosneft’s at $9 billion.

The natural-gas powerhouses Gazprom (OGZD.U.K.) and Novatek (NVTK.U..K.) haven’t been spared. Gazprom stock is down as much as 99.8% since mid-February, touching 2 cents in London on Wednesday. Novatek shares, down a similar amount, ended around 60 cents in London.

Six months ago, the combined market value of these companies was $178 billion. Novatek’s had been reduced to $205 million by Wednesday, while Gazprom’s was $2.9 billion.

This is BS. Can I buy any if they are so cheap? Don't think I can. My broker shows the last known meaningful value, which is down 54%. This is because those are not the real Russian stocks, but ADR/GDR wrappers that point to stocks listed in Moscow, in rubles. This allows investors who only have dollars or euros to buy ruble stocks. I'd love to buy right now, like the Russian government does, but I don't have a ruble account and even if I did, I would not be able to send any euros to it.

The only natively listed stocks I can think of are Yandex (on NYSE, down 20% and trading at $18) A great deal BTW. Had the Russian-language market split with Google 50:50, but now that Google quit, has it all to themselves. Another one is Vympelcom (VEON) on Nasdaq, which is actual up 17%. Both companies are BV, that is incorporated under Dutch law. (VEON going West was so long ago that it is inconclusively Russian anymore. The founder has a Canadian citizenship and dutifully sponsors your revolution. Navalny claims that the massive donations he got are from him) Originally, owned a major cellular operator (out of 3) called Beeline, now owns all kinds of telecom crap around the world.

Interested in evidence? It is pretty indisputable. There are US government's own documents about those. Some 12 known ones and 2 more being built. A few also in Georgia. Some of it is relatively harmless. (Testing designer viruses and medicines on cheaper test subjects. Because somebody got to it, right?) The only weird part is DoD doing it themselves, rather than outsourcing to a private contractor (it is a big business. My ex-girlfriend, who was an MD, used to work for a Belgian company testing crap on fellow Russians)

The Russians are obsessing about them, because they are also collecting a massive database of ex-Soviet DNA samples. I mean, they would obviously be interested to have biological weapons which only work on the Russians, but this is known not to work. The only plausible target for ethno-selective medicines are believed to be peoples of sub-Saharan African stock, i.e. black. On the other hand, is the actual research on this likely classified (if any) Classifying basic research is generally a bad idea, but outright biological warfare is officially forbidden. Arguably, coronavirus "functional gain" research is a polite version of the same.

Once a couple of more Ukraine cities get leveled, The European countries will say enough and engage.

Not going to happen. No Westerner will risk their precious lives to protect indigenous people. If it was free of charge like in Yugoslavia, then maybe. Russia's home turf? No way. Besides, Grandpa Pu WILL launch nukes it response. Which Russia's got and you have not. US did zero upgrades to nuclear arsenal since USSR breakup, it's ancient stuff. So, there is no MAD. Russia is very likely to win. Leveling London and Washington while defending Moscow would make enough an impression for everybody else to squeal and fold. Because there was never really a credible treat to UK's or US' home territory, not even during WWII.

The European countries openly delivered weapons to Ukraine after the hostilities started. This is already an act of war, in case you didn't know. There is also a number of Western mercs who've been fighting in Donbass all this time. They'll probably try to send more.

Regardless of how awake the old Joe is, there is still the American Deep State. Don't think it is going to behave any different from before. That is, Uncle Sam never really had any qualms about throwing its minions under the bus. NATO does not oblige the members to participate in each other's offensive campaigns.

Having said that, the Ukrainian cities are not really getting leveled, except for Donetsk and Luhansk. Which has been going on for 8 years already. Russians are providing corridors for civilians to escape, but the Nazi goons won't let them escape in many cases.

Sounds like Russia may declare martial law.

People already starting to flee. If it's like Venezuela and PDVSA the people who are actually capable of operating stuff might be the first.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/mar/03/people-leaving-russia-ukraine-war

The exodus has been fuelled by rumours that authorities could declare martial law as soon as Friday, when the federation council, Russia’s upper house of parliament, is due to hold an unscheduled meeting.

Such a move would be unprecedented in modern Russian history and could involve mass mobilization of the male population as well as the closure of borders, according to an official document describing the law.

“I got my family together after a friend at the ‘top’ called me about this martial law thing. We booked the first plane available on Tuesday and flew to a random country I have never been before,” said Anton, a senior manager at a major Russian oil and gas firm. “I am not planning to fight in this war that wasn’t my decision to begin with.”

Tatyana Stanovaya, a prominent Russian political analyst and founder of R.Politik, on Wednesday evening tweeted that introducing a martial law could be a “logical scenario”.

“The proclamation of martial law will allow the authorities to introduce military censorship, to increase the secrecy of the state’s activities and the actions of local bodies.”

What difference does it make? Military censorship is already here. There is a 15-years sentence they promised to any media who cheers for Ukraine. Main opposition TV channel (TV Rain) and radio station (Echo Msk) who did nothing else all day have been closed, possibly temporary.

Don't think they are calling up the reservists. Possibly those who volunteer? They haven't been using even the regular conscripts yet, professional military only.

A lot of these shots are propaganda junk. The lowest rung uses stock photos of Arabs being blown up. Most of the population can't tell the difference. If a building which was formerly a kindergarten is being used for an artillery position, it is a legitimate target. It is not OK to keep the children there. Russia is providing corridors for civilian population to escape. In many cases, the Nazi goons won't let them out.

There is an obvious drive to increase amount of bloodshed. The authorities in Kiev are calling for total war and telling the citizens to make Molotov cocktails and attack Russian armor. Which will not work, but likely will get them killed. Some folks in Kharkov actually did set up a Grad MLRS system left unattended on fire. It blew up and took out the swanky apartment building they lived at. A young woman tried a dashing command raid using her car and ended up setting it on fire (the bottle bounced inwards) The more of such idiots die, the more glory to the heroes yadda yadda. Most of the bridges in Eastern Ukraine have been blown up, which is beyond stupid. All Russian armor short of full blown MBT is fully amphibious. Why would you conduct a total war against the Russians? Who, unlike the Nazis, have no goal of killing all Slavs and taking their stuff. All that Russia wants is a bit of a regime change. No occupational plans beyond Donbass.

The art of being the hegemony involves skillfully sitting on all the chairs at once. Yes, there is reputation loss for abandoning alleged allies. Not the first time, pliant media will whitewash soon enough. On the other hand, much new weapon sales. None of the reasons Russia attacked Ukraine is really transferable to the EU. Have they been killing many Russians lately? Ukraine killed some 15,000 in Donbass and kept doing it. Plenty of pictures of leveled buildings and dead civilians from there. Which you've been happily ignoring for the last 8 years.

They have already been focused on the green agenda, to the extent of shooting themselves in a foot.

The condemnation is AstroTurf, propelled by media frenzy. This sort of thing does not last. There is always the next sensation just around the corner. Wars are common. USA + minions have done a lot worse. This is about something else.

Easily said from a comfy warm residence in Austria. Why aren't you heading back to mother Russia?

The same can be said for you. Why don't you buy a Javelin and make a dashing contraband run over the Polish border? If you believe in giving Javelins to Ukrainians so much? This will save the American taxpayers a lot of money, compared to when official "military aid" channels do it. Total win-win.

Going to Russia from EU is not even officially possible right now. Unofficially, yes, through Turkey or UAE. Other problems

a) I need a Russian visa. Difficult right now

b) European ATM cards won't work in Russian ATMs. The EU categorically banned bringing in EU banknotes into Russia. Do you reckon I better procure a stack of $100 bills, or get the EUR in Turkey/UAE if available where nobody cares where I am going anymore. However, the EU does limit the amount of cash carried on an air traveler to 10,000 EUR anyway. So, UAE it is? They are most likely to have no restrictions on carried cash. Turkey unlikely so. If there are no restrictions on the amount of carried cash in the UAE, the EU's prohibition on euro banknotes to Russia is nonsensical. Come to think of it, it is nonsensical no matter what.

Anything else you see you can improve in our plans? Now, what would I do in mother Russia that is any different from what am I doing now? Nobody there remembers who I am anymore.

Excuses. Excuses. Easy to sit in comfort in a free western democracy and cheer on the Russian rubble pile.

Again, look at yourself? I am cheering for the side fighting the just war (though I would be advising against starting it, if anybody cared to ask me)

If Russia is a rubble pile, what is Ukraine you are cheering for? You don't really buy into the story of it being a fluffy bunny, happily democratic nation who bad uncle Putin attacked out of the blue? You are too old for this.

Those with no clue are not free. You believe into whatever you need to believe, the rest you don't even know.

Your so-called democracy is a lynching mob of the moral majority faction. Should be obvious by now.

Let's work on your plans of weapons contraband into Ukraine? It is more fun. Come on, you can do it. You can start by opening a fundraiser page. Lots of folks are doing the same already, as we speak. If it doesn't work out, you can just keep the cash. You honestly tried.
