"John Kerry fears Russia-Ukraine war will distract from climate change"

Recommended Posts

And so we have the following Moment of Zen from everyone's favorite American establishment ghoul, John "Skull & Bones" Kerry:

Kerry, the U.S. special presidential envoy for climate, said in an interview Monday on BBC Arabic:

"But it could have a profound negative impact on the climate obviously. You have a war and obviously you’re going to have massive emissions consequences to the war. But equally importantly, you're going to lose people's focus, you're going to lose certainly big country attention because they will be diverted and I think it could have a damaging impact," he continued. "So, you know, I think hopefully President Putin would realize that in the northern part of his country, they used to live on 66% of the nation that was over frozen land."

"Now it's thawing, and his infrastructure is at risk," he added. "And the people of Russia are at risk. And so I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate."

Kerry, who has faced criticism for his own impact on climate change, made similar comments Sunday when he told GZERO Media’s Ian Bremmer that a Russian invasion of Ukraine will have a "monumental impact on the ability and willingness of people to do what’s necessary" to curb emissions, and it will be "very tough for the climate agenda, there’s no question about it."

Kerry's made the comments days before Russian forces invaded Ukraine on Thursday by land, air and sea in the largest military attack of one state against another on the European continent since World War II.

That's right, the climate billionaires are upset that the military-industrial billionaires are hogging the propaganda spotlight that should be shining on their pet "existential threat." Clearly the Ukrainians should be more worried about the centimetres of global sea level rise, which the Nostradamuses at the UN warn will be inundating us a century from now if we don't appease the weather gods.

You can't make this stuff up. Who would even try?  -- James Corbett

It looks like Ukraine is now a de facto member of NATO

Norway will provide military equipment to Ukraine

From CNN's Niamh Kennedy in London

Norway will provide $226 million in humanitarian assistance and military equipment to Ukraine.

The Norwegian government announced the support measures in a statement Monday, saying that this "extraordinary allocation to Ukraine is intended to enhance the efforts of humanitarian actors to help the most vulnerable groups, including children."

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre condemned Russia's "military attacks in Ukraine," which he said were "causing widespread loss of life and suffering in the civilian population, destroying vital infrastructure and forcing people to flee their homes."

As far as military aid is concerned, Norway will send "military equipment such as helmets and bulletproof vests to Ukraine." The equipment was all requested by Ukraine and can be sent quickly, Norwegian Defense Minister Roger Enoksen added.

He highlighted the plight of the Ukrainian people "fighting for survival against a superior military force."

"Russia’s attack on Ukraine is threatening European security in a way we have not experienced since the second world war. It poses a threat to the norms, values and principles on which our democratic societies are founded," Enoksen continued.

Norway is joining the European Union to impose "harsh sanctions against Russia," according to the statement, adding that further sanctions announced Monday "will also target Belarus."

Norwegian Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum is also set to ask the Norway's sovereign wealth fund, the Government Pension Fund Global, to "freeze all its investments in Russia immediately" and divest from Russia.

Norway's final move is closing its airspace to Russian airlines, joining a host of other European airlines in doing so.

Lol John Kerry and Biden let foreign countries own 30% of US refinery capacity that the US dosent even need. That is not green. I am green. Does not seem smart to me to eat that pollution and kill babies. Lol You got it yet? Them boys are peas in a pod with you. They ain’t green.
Our politicians are deep state, red and blue. Pollution runs rampant. Hundreds of thousands of holes from wells that are not capped leaking methane every day. John Kerry and Biden know this, you know this. Y’all just a big part of the misinformation machine. Y’all be fake news boys. Lol you’ll go down in history. You’ll be that era where they sooooooo dumb they kilt themselves.

according  to the latest climate info, temperature is actually dropping few degrees over the years during covid lock down. It is supported by an observation that Clouds are found hanging lower than usual this year. It is probably the reason that  more rain directly hitting the ground with larger impact e.g. volume, soil erosion, severity of flood etc.

The globe is cooling..... 'o' 'o'   'o'

If severe flooding everywhere stopped suddenly from now on, could it be due to the heat from those regions dissipates water before they fall? 'o'

John Kerry is even more stupid than Biden; Kerry tried to take the political stage after Vietnam, found out to be a poser, Married for money Heinz, and used her money to get on the political scene.

The Heinz family were big into horses; with John Kerry, they got “Mr. Ed.”

Yeah those exorbitant fossil fuel prices and Putin are wreaking havoc. Good thing they are getting replaced with renewables and nuclear.

They had to learn the hard way. They should have developed their own natural gas resources along with the renewables while keeping their nuclear and coal! The environazis have no common sense though. Putin funded the Greens for decades.

Yes I have understood that for a very longtime Putin funding the environmental community. Lmao Green Peace used to invest heavily into oil stocks, until they we're caught and shamed out.

This whole energy war we are witnessing in the world someday will be laid at their doorstep. Brussels is a very bad actor as Norway. Maeserk shipping one of the polluters the world has ever known is a company based in Denmark.

The Norwegian Trust Fund worth over 1 trillion dollars...all earned on oil revenues. What a bunch of actor's.

You pointed out to me the magnitude of the pollution caused by ships. I have always promoted natural gas for ships, so we share a major concern.

Natural gas will come down in price as flared gas is seen as a commodity which can easily be tapped and sold for a profit or used directly in the oilfields or nearby. It can also be shipped by trucks as CNG. Europe needs to rethink its opposition to developing their own, but natural gas is all over the world. It just needs to be developed.

Methane hydrates need to be developed by countries like Japan that have to import it. They have been testing it.

Germany resistance to US LNG was so hostile it made me blink! I watched Trump actually bludgeoning a German official on the topic. In short he was extremely aggressive hard hitting and finally rude. Germany is quite complicent in this energy crisis.

I need to find the video and post it, quite illuminating.

develop what????.....0.30 trillion cubic feet.........is nothing...The US has 322 triilion cubic feet...1000 times the amount of France...Russia has 1688 trillion cubic feet............5000 times

France consumes in a year 4.9 times more than its total reserves.

Gas Reserves in France

France holds only 0.30 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of proven gas reserves as of 2017, ranking 77th in the world and accounting for about 0.004% of the world's total natural gas reserves of 6,923 Tcf.

Unless you are thinking gassy Frenchmen can produce enough everyday to power the country

You really have no clue when you babble They should have developed their own natural gas resources.....

Russia intensifies crackdown on independent media; more protesters arrested

Published: March 6, 2022 at 4:55 p.m. ET

Many media organizations halt operations in wake of ‘fake news’ law

im-499226?width=700&height=427Journalists work at the office of Echo of Moscow radio in Moscow on Thursday, after the well-respected news organization dissolved itself after its ban by Russian authorities.NEW YORK — Russian authorities on Sunday continued to block independent news outlets and to arrest protesters in an effort to tighten control over what information the domestic audience sees about the invasion of Ukraine. Multiple independent online outlets were blocked on Sunday, on top of dozens of others that were blocked last week. Others decided to halt their operations in Russia because of new repressive laws or refused to cover the invasion at all because of the pressure. Hundreds of protesters have been detained across Russia. The new additions to the list of blocked media included Mediazona, a news site that covers Russia’s police and justice system and has been an indispensable source of information about political arrests and high-profile court cases; the website of Snob magazine; the Agentstvo investigative news outlet; the 7×7 site covering regional news; the Troitsky Variant popular science newspaper that has published an open letter decrying the invasion; and two regional news sites that also spoke out against the attack. U.S.-funded broadcaster Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty announced Sunday it was suspending its operation in Russia after it said the country intensified pressure on its journalists and tax authorities initiated bankruptcy proceedings against it. “(Russian communications and media agency) Roskomnadzor demanded we delete our entire website. Yes, we received this demand from the agency — to block ourselves. Because we incorrectly cover Russia’s attack on Ukraine and call the war a war,” Mediazona said in a statement. “We were prepared for this. In recent days, military censorship has been effectively introduced in Russia, and there are almost no independent media left in the country. We understand all our risks, but we continue to work — this is our duty to our readers and to ourselves,” the outlet said and listed several ways Russian readers can get around the block. RFE/RL, which has been physically present in Russia since 1991, was planning to continue reporting on Russia and its war in Ukraine from abroad.“We will continue to expand our reporting for Russian audiences and will use every platform possible to reach them at a time when they need our journalism more than ever,” chief executive Jamie Fly said.Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed into law a bill that criminalizes the intentional spreading of what Moscow deems to be “fake” reports. Those convicted of the offense would face up 15 years in prison.Russian authorities have repeatedly and falsely decried reports of Russian military setbacks or civilian deaths in Ukraine as “fake” news, as well as reports calling the offensive a war or an invasion. State media outlets and government officials refer to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a “special military operation” and insist the Russian forces only target military facilities.Despite the efforts to tightly control the narrative, Russians all across the country have spoken out against the war. Tens of thousands have signed open letters and online petitions demanding to stop it, and street protests in dozens of Russian cities have been happening almost daily since the attack began on Feb. 24 — always followed by mass detentions. On Sunday, protests spanned from Siberia to St. Petersburg, with dozens of Russians taking to the streets in different cities. According to OVD-Info, a rights group that tracks political arrests, more than 4,600 people were detained in 65 Russian cities on Sunday, part of over 13,000 people detained since Feb. 24.

Quite. My sailing club took delivery last week of 8KW of solar panels. To follow will include another 8KW and a large thermal store following long debates on this. It seems Putlers activities were the final straw that triggered the club into action.

That will reduce our annual gas consumption (via electricity) by about 32000 kwh.

I'm sticking in another 2.4KW following my triple glazing and wall insulation wotk at home.

I suspect Putin funded groups that campaigned against:

Renewables in the west

Nuclear in the west

fossil fuel production in the west

All of which work against the interests of Russian gas, oil & coal exports / Russian hemogeny over energy markets

Shutters instead of triple glazing is superior.  Sorry, I tried finding the study and could not which showed that instead of triple glazing windows, which barely increases insulation value of the window itself, it is FAR superior Insulation and cost $$$ to put shutters on your windows which close at night.

The U value on the triple was almost half that of the comparative double glazing so I will have to disagree with you there.

Going triple only added about £250 to the cost of the 3 windows.

Ah, so no, you are NOT going to spend money, you were chest beating on $$$ you had already SPENT on windows you already replaced.🙄  Entirely different discussion.  Said U value decreases over time drastically in windows, but U value of shutters when closed at night never decrease.

PS: Quad glazing will save you another 10%-->20%(depending on age)... replace them all!!!!!!  Pronto!

No.....I order the windows last week, They get delivered next month and installed in May

The thermal transmissance on the triple is 0.96w/m2/K v 1.4 w/m2K so a 33% improvement for triple. Other benefits of triple include extra security (another pane of glass to get through) and reduced noise transmission

I haven't got room for shutters and as we needed new windows anyway and it is easier to upgrade to triple than consider installing both new windows and shutters.

The point is the Ukraine situation has brought fwd many of our plans and the General (the wife) is more accommodating.
