How to Calculate Your Individual ESG Score

In business, ESG issues have been on the docket for quite some time. Not only do stakeholders pay attention to the effect a company has on the environment, third parties and even the government is also keeping track.

ESG covers a range of issues, including the overall environmental impact a company or its services imparts in addition to diversity, human rights, and other social issues. Governance plays a role as well. Every company will have an ESG rating which is considered their ESG score.

Investors and other companies use this to help determine partnership, investment, and even takeover decisions.

That being said, you may be wondering about an individual ESG score. People have credit scores that tell lenders and other parties if they can pay their debts. It is similar to a credit score when it comes to an individual ESG score, but instead of rating creditworthiness, it rates a person’s ESG risk.

This article will cover the basics of an individual ESG score, how yours is calculated, and what it will be used for going forward. We will also teach you how to calculate your individual ESG score so that you can work towards improving your rating.

Do I Have an ESG Score?

You may know all about your credit score, but an individual ESG score is still rather new. Many mainstream financial institutions are creating a new platform that is centered on ESG scores.

In addition to creating this platform, their lending guidelines are also getting an update that includes new rules that will tie your individual ESG score to your ability to secure lending.

Being that it’s still new, there is not too much that is completely known about how it will be used and what regulations will improve or correct your score. In many cases, people are generally unaware that they even have an ESG score unless they happen to come across it in the process of doing something totally unrelated.

For example, consumers who have accounts with Merrill Lynch will be able to view their score, whatever that may be. While this may sound like tales out of China, it is a system that is, in fact, being implement in the US and soon many other nations.

Lenders will use this system to choose who they extend services or credit to. The main reason is that companies, including lenders, are being graded according to the ESG standards themselves.

Their business and prosperity depend directly on their hiring practices, gender diversity, social and environmental impact, and other ESG factors. As they are required to prove their case, they will also need to show that their clients meet the standards they are being graded.

What is the Purpose of an ESG Score for Individuals?

https://cdn.theimpactinvestor.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Working-Equipments.jpg.webpWorking-Equipments.jpg.webp

A few different things will determine your personal ESG score, many of which can be discovered via your regular credit report and other public records. Your purchase history and also your sales history will have a dramatic effect on your ESG rating as a person.

The charities that you support will also increase or even decrease your ESG score. The platform will track your personal impact in the environment around you through various means, which will also be used to calculate your individual ESG score.

The purpose behind each person being assigned an individual ESG score is to help reward actions that will help move the world towards sustainability. While there are not currently any downsides to having an ESG score, regardless of how high or how low, there will come a time where too low of a score can result in denials for loans or services similar to the way credit scores currently function.

For now, ESG scores for individuals are used as a tracking tool for companies to monitor behavior. For those who have already started using ESG scores as part of their business model, some people with good scores may notice lucrative offers, easier loan terms, and even targeted packages designed to reward green or sustainable behaviors.

What is My ESG Score?

Now that you know a little more about the basics and principles behind an individual ESG score, you may be wondering where to find your rating.

There are a few different places you can check to find your score. If you hold an account at a major financial firm such as Merrill Lynch, your personal ESG score will be listed on your account with your other personal details. You can also check any of the main ESG monitoring companies’ websites.

Usually, you will need to create an account or contact them directly to get information regarding your personal score.

If you are not an investor or don’t have a big financial account, it can be difficult to get your score from traditional places.

However, you can calculate your score to get a better idea of how companies view you in sustainability.

Quick Tutorial On How to Calculate My Personal ESG Score

For companies, any score between 50 and 70 is considered to be average. It is neither good nor bad but rather neutral within that particular industry.

A score over 70 is a good thing which means the company makes better ESG supportive decisions and has an ESG stable way of doing business.

For individuals, the scoring is a bit different but follows the same general set of rules. If you are wondering how do I find my personal ESG score, our easy-to-understand tutorial will help.

What You Need To Determine Your Individual ESG Score

Finding and calculating your personal ESG score will mainly depend on your metrics’ materiality. In addition to your unique factors, you will also need to identify your personal ESG goals to determine a score.

You can perform audits of your actions to help spot risks and then implement measures to correct aspects of your increasing score, or rather lowering your personal ESG score.

ESG ratings are based on the measure of behaviors, investments, habits, and other actions gathered from a range of public sources.

Your score may be adjusted depending on a range of factors, including the company’s policies from which your score is delivered.

As such, there will be some variation between scores depending on where yours is the source in comparison with your own manual calculations.

Some things you may need to calculate your personal score are:

  • A list of your investments.
  • A general calculation of how many miles you travel via car and public transport.
  • The amount of energy you use each month (electricity, gas, etc.).
  • Your cryptocurrency profile.
  • Your food consumption numbers.
  • Your organic and environmental effort profile.
  • And other metrics.

Step 1 On How to Calculate ESG Score

You will start by amassing the data. Depending on how comprehensive you want your evaluation to be, the more data you will need. Calculate the amount of energy you use personally and as a family. You will also need to calculate the amount of waste you produce personally.

Look at your purchases and tabulate the percentage of your eco-friendly purchases and those that are not.

You will also need to look at your investments and separate them into ESG friendly ones and those that are not. Social ethics also play a role in your overall score.

Consider how your actions, both online and in-person, help support your community and those around you. Also, you will need to calculate how your actions harm those around you.

The point of these calculations is to understand how much you affect the environment and people around you, both positively and negatively.

Step 2 On How to Calculate ESG Score

You can then answer several questions that further relate to your life, habits, and consumption that will help create a complete picture of your interaction with the world around you.

These survey questions can be downloaded online from any ESG reporting agency, or you can take an online assessment that will help guide you through the appropriate questions.

Step 3 On How to Calculate ESG Score

Once the calculations and questions are completed, the answers will need to be segmented. This will separate your replies and consumption into sections that can then be measured and assigned an ESG value.

The criteria used to segment the information will vary slightly from one reporting agency to the next. Still, they will cover personal carbon emissions, waste production, energy usage, environmental impact, social impact, ethics insights, and sustainability efforts, among other things.

Step 4 On How to Calculate ESG Score

After segmenting each section, a value will then be assigned to each. Some areas have a heavier weight than others. For example, if you invest in green programs and also avoid eating meat, it will have a heavier weight than your use of electricity in your home daily.

Every ESG rating agency has its own predefined scoring systems that assign weights and measures to each segment. As a result, the final, personal ESG score may vary slightly from agency to agency and agencies to your own calculations.

Controversies, actual reporting, truth in reporting, and exact tabulations will also play a role in your final score.

Commercial companies also have more access to public data than you may have on your own, which will further affect the actual score you are awarded.

A Closer Look At The Metrics

ESG scores take a lot of information into account when it comes to commercial and industrial entities. On a personal level, just as much information is used to create a picture of who you are and how your personal actions influence the world around you.

Buying a gun, alcohol, or even clothing will all affect your overall ESG score. Not only will your purchases matter, but who you purchase from and how they do business.

Your political affiliations also factor into your personal ESG score. Aside from the politics in governance, the party you support and even the person you vote for will make your score go up or down based on that person’s actions, policies, and voting habits.

The type of car you drive, how often, and even how many people are in the car when you drive will also come into play when deciding your score.

Unlike credit scores with a clear method of tabulation, cause, and effect, ESG scores depend on a wide variety of factors that most people have yet to consider. Depending on where you live, even calculating a personal ESG score can mean giving up your rights to basic privacy.

"All this sounds horrific."    I agree.  James Corbett addressed the coming Techncracy in the 2017 documentary "Why Big Oil Conquered the World" which goes into assigning a new carbon (CO2) based metric of living for people.  He has been talking about the coming of the new ESG metric, and the Digital ID currency and population control platforms for over a decade.  We are seeing it evolve faster now, especially since it was so easy to control the world population with the Covid pandemic.

The top posted website is the real deal...   https://theimpactinvestor.com/calculate-individual-esg-score/

This ESG metric is very real on a personal level.  It doesn't take much imagination to see this personal level when corporations are all onboard with ESG metrics.  Banks, Credit Card and companies like retailers and Amazon track a person's spending habits.  Canada recently froze the bank accounts of individuals who donated to the Trucker's Freedom Convoy.  Some people who donated just $50 were locked out...sometimes a spouse was locked out just for being married to a contributor.  (Being "socially incorrect"  can lower one's ESG rating).

ESG - This is a Public/Private partnership. Banks will go through our statements and credit card purchases and give us each a ESG score. If yours is low they won’t give you a car loan or mortgage, or personal loan. They may even not allow you to bank.

Social and Governance are very concerning.  What if an individual has the wrong political leaning or the wrong "thinking"...what if they HomeSchool their kids, but that is not sanctioned by the state?  What if they do not want to be vaccinated?   What if they want to own a gun?  What if they are are anti-war but the official narrative is to pick sides?

Here is a clipping...

First thing is to figure out all the possible areas where you might score yourself. Just pick a few from this list:
  • Dietary choices (meat vs. vegan and how often, chocolate, etc.)
  • Energy usage
  • Transportation habits
  • Attitude and outlook
  • Environmental impact of your job or career choice
  • Sustainable clothing choices
  • Investing and investment
  • Purchase of ethical goods (or purchasing them second-hand)
  • Recycling habits
  • Carbon footprint
  • Personal contributions to betterment-random acts of kindness
  • Composting practices, grow your own

Again I think there's been a misunderstanding.. the first link applies to individuals using ESG to guide their investment decisions. My understanding of the original post was that individuals would have their own ESG score which would be used by others much as the personal credit score is used by lenders. The second link is behind a pay wall. But let's not trouble ourselves further.. Thankyou for the links. I'll sign out of the debate.

RE: How to Calculate Your Individual ESG Score

Mastercard Official Taglines: “There are some things money can’t buy. For everything else, there’s Mastercard.”
“Priceless!!”

Tuesday April 19, 2022 – Bloomberg via YahooFinance
Mastercard to Tie All Employee Bonuses to Meeting ESG Goals
https://archive.ph/LKRBr

FULL article
(Bloomberg) — Mastercard Inc. said it’s expanding an earlier push to tie executives’ bonuses to the company’s environmental, social and governance goals.

The firm will now link all employees’ compensation to those goals after earlier only doing so for those at the executive vice president level and above, Chief Executive Officer Michael Miebach said in a memo to staff on Tuesday.

Mastercard will focus specifically on those targets it has toward reducing its carbon emissions, improving financial inclusion and reaching gender-pay parity. The Purchase, New York-based company will incorporate the goals into its so-called annual corporate score, which also takes into account revenue and earnings, and is one of the metrics used in determining bonus levels.

“We’re tying compensation to emissions, financial inclusion and the gender pay gap because we have a substantial impact in these areas and because they closely align with our vision,” Miebach said in the memo.

Mastercard in November committed to reach net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2040, a decade sooner than it had previously planned as it reduces its carbon footprint. The company also has made progress toward closing its gender pay gap, with female employees now making 93 cents for every dollar male employees earn on average, an improvement from the 92.4 cents it reported in 2020.

In its proxy statement last year, Mastercard said the move to formulaically link executives’ annual incentives to its environmental, social and governance goals could raise or lower payouts by as much as 10 percentage points, depending on how the firm performed on those targets.

Italy Creates New Social Credit App To Reward Citizens For Virtuous Behavior

April 23, 2022

Social credit apps, if poorly developed or used, can lead to serious limitations on, and violations of, citizens’ rights and freedoms, as well as discriminatory practices. Nevertheless, Italy has created a new social credit app to reward citizens for virtuous behavior.

By rewarding some residents for their behavior through a point system, a new software recently developed in Italy bears remarkable resemblance to China’s social credit system.

The “Smart Citizen Wallet” was unveiled at a news conference on digital innovation in Bologna on March 29. Mayor Matteo Lepore and Massimo Bugani, director of the city’s “Digital Agenda,” spoke about the initiative.

The app is already operating in Rome, as per local newspaper Corriere di Bologna, which characterized the approach as “similar to a supermarket points collection.” It is now in its trial phases. This September, it will be introduced in Bologna.

Citizens who use the program will be rewarded for things like recycling, taking public transportation, managing their energy efficiently, and avoiding fines.

Citizens will be able to increase their rating and earn points that they may “spend” on numerous prizes such as rebates and free cultural activities by engaging in so-called “virtuous behaviors.”

Bugani noted that the app was part of a larger initiative by the city of Bologna to engage in digital innovation at the March 29 conference.

“What we call a new ‘water system’ for the city is being built,” he said.

“In the coming years many services will go digital in Italy; we have an ambitious project here that is built on solid foundations.”

According to Bugani, the new smart citizen wallet software will be accessible to Bologna residents after this summer.

“Obviously no one will be forced to participate,” he said. “Those who want to will be able to give consent when downloading and using the app.”

However, he expects that “many people will want to participate.”

“We want to make them understand that they are not ‘losers,’ but that their behavior is rewarded,” Bugnani explained.

Some Italian, French, and German journalists, writers, and bloggers have noted that the app’s premise is strikingly similar to China’s social credit system. This, too, compensates citizens based on a point system.

Numerous social media users were also aware of this. The concept was branded as “terrifying” by Twitter user Nat.

Others have drawn parallels with other digital projects, such as Thales’ Digital ID Wallet, and cautioned that such efforts could enable the government to implement a social credit system comparable to China’s in the West.

On its website, Privacy Network, an Italian tech firm specializing on digital privacy, published a statement warning about the legal, ethical, and societal implications of such apps.

“These practices, if poorly developed or used, can lead to serious limitations on, and violations of, citizens’ rights and freedoms, as well as discriminatory practices, which are also achieved through technological means, such as ‘social credit’ systems (or social scoring),” the statement read.

“Our concern is increased by the fact that similar systems have already been introduced in other Italian cities as well; first of all, in Rome, where the Smart Citizen Wallet is already being tested.”

The Privacy Network said that it had made a formal demand for information regarding the app’s processes and features of any personal data processing, and also the identities of the providers and third parties participating in the project ‘s implementation.

PayPal’s IndyMedia Wipeout

Authored by Matt Taibbi via TK News
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/taibbi-paypals-indymedia-wipeout

EXCERPTS
In the last week or so, the online payment platform PayPal without explanation suspended the accounts of a series of individual journalists and media outlets, including the well-known alt sites Consortium and MintPress

[Details follow – (PayPal keeping their money is a strong possibility)]

…This episode ups the ante again on the content moderation movement, toward the world hinted at in the response to the Canadian trucker protests, where having the wrong opinions can result in your money being frozen or seized. Going after cash is a big jump from simply deleting speech, with a much bigger chilling effect. This is especially true in the alternative media world, where money has long been notoriously tight, and the loss of a few thousand dollars here or there can have a major effect on a site, podcast, or paper…

…While companies like Facebook, Google, and Twitter at least occasionally explain why prominent accounts have been suspended, neither PayPal nor the (ADL) Anti-Defamation League will comment about how suspensions and confiscations of companies like MintPress and Consortium fit into their efforts to head off “criminal activity.” …

CDC Tracked Millions Of Americans During Lockdowns To Monitor Movement, Compliance

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) spied on millions of Americans using cell phone location data in order to track movements and monitor whether people were complying with lockdown curfews during the pandemic.

According to CDC documents from 2021 obtained by Motherboard via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, the program tracked patterns of people visiting K-12 schools - and in one case, monitored "the effectiveness of policy in the Navajo Nation." The documents reveal that while the CDC used the pandemic to justify purchasing the data more quickly, it actually intended to use it for general agency purposes.

The documents reveal the expansive plan the CDC had last year to use location data from a highly controversial data broker. SafeGraph, the company the CDC paid $420,000 for access to one year of data to, includes Peter Thiel and the former head of Saudi intelligence among its investors. Google banned the company from the Play Store in June. -Motherboard

The data which was purchased comes from cell phones - meaning SafeGraph can track where a person lives, works, and where they've been, and then sell that data to various entities. The data which the CDC bought was aggregated - which is designed to follow broad trends in how people are moving around, however researchers have raised concerns over how location data can be deanonymized to track specific individuals.

According to the CDC documents, SafeGraph's data "has been critical for ongoing response efforts, such as hourly monitoring of activity in curfew zones or detailed counts of visits to participating pharmacies for vaccine monitoring."

"The CDC seems to have purposefully created an open-ended list of use cases, which included monitoring curfews, neighbor to neighbor visits, visits to churches, schools and pharmacies, and also a variety of analysis with this data specifically focused on ‘violence,'" said Zach Edwards, a cybersecurity researcher who closely follows the data marketplace.

As far as unmasking individuals, Edwards noted how SafeGraph's data can be used to pinpoint certain people.

"In my opinion the SafeGraph data is way beyond any safe thresholds [around anonymity]," he said, pointing to one result in SafeGraph's user interface that showed individual movements to a specific doctor's office - indicating how finely tuned the 'aggregated' data actually is. If a bad actor wanted to unmask someone, they could theoretically do so using similar techniques.

The documents contain a long list of what the CDC describes as 21 different “potential CDC use cases for data.” They include:

  • Track patterns of those visiting K-12 schools by the school and compare to 2019; compare with epi metrics [Environmental Performance Index] if possible.”
  • Examination of the correlation of mobility patterns data and rise in COVID-19 cases [...] Movement restrictions (Border closures, inter-regional and nigh curfews) to show compliance.”
  • “Examination of the effectiveness of public policy on [the] Navajo Nation.” -Motherboard

Cell phone location data has been used throughout the pandemic for various purposes - including by media organizations reporting on how people were traveling once lockdowns began to lift.

That said, the CDC wanted the data for more than just tracking Covid-19 policy response. While the procurement documents say the data is for "an URGENT COVID-19 PR [procurement request]," one of the included use cases reads "Research points of interest for physical activity and chronic disease prevention such as visits to parks, gyms, or weight management businesses."

Another section expands on non-Covid-19 related uses.

"CDC also plans to use mobility data and services acquired through this acquisition to support non-COVID-19 programmatic areas and public health priorities across the agency, including but not limited to travel to parks and greenspaces, physical activity and mode of travel, and population migration before, during, and after natural disasters," it reads. "The mobility data obtained under this contract will be available for CDC agency-wide use and will support numerous CDC priorities."

The data purchased by the CDC was SafeGraph's "U.S. Core Place Data," "Weekly Patterns Data," and "Neighborhood Patterns Data," the latter of which includes information such as 'home dwelling time' which is aggregated by state and census block, per Motherboard.

"SafeGraph offers visitor data at the Census Block Group level that allows for extremely accurate insights related to age, gender, race, citizenship status, income, and more," reads a CDC document.

Again I'm horrified - thanks for drawing all that to my attention. I'll look at the matter more closely. Leave it with you.

You got numbers from a study or just passing on stuff like Biden stole the election. These Republicans will spread anything to anyone. Dunno why but it seems popular now. Stupid shyt, crazy shyt. Seems a goal is in spewing weird information in large enough volume to skew all information. Hey, I’ll read some of Toms stuff, ( no time for the links),. Boat - I wasn't really contributing to the debate just expressing concern over the matter. I haven't heard of personal environment scores before of whatever it was but it sounds like the sort of crazy nonsense the greens would get up to, so the issue is worth watching. If you have some issue about the source of the material you should take it up with those who wrote the original post. I also note that your post is incoherent in places. Leave it with you.

Health Authorities Tracked Movements Of Canadians Via Cellphones During Pandemic

“BlueDot, an intelligence analysis company, prepared movement reports for PHAC using anonymized data acquired from mobile devices. The reports helped the public health agency understand movement patterns during the pandemic,” reports Reclaim the Net.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) was able to obtain detailed insights into people’s movements and recorded their visits to liquor stores, pharmacies, visits to friends and trips to other provinces, also collecting information on time spent in each location...

...As we highlighted last week, the CDC purchased tracking data for millions of Americans’ mobile phones with an intention of monitoring their movements to see if they were complying with lockdowns, curfews and travel restrictions during the COVID pandemic...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And remember, remember...
Authorities in Canada also froze bank accounts of people who donated to the Trucker Freedom Convoy
Alibaba is Creating a Digital ID Carbon Footprint Tracker
May 24, 2022
ALIBABA-CARBON-FOOTPRINT-TRACKER-1024x57By The Counter Signal
Alibaba Group president J. Michael Evans bragged that the multi-billion-dollar company was creating a carbon footprint tracker to monitor people’s consumption around the world.
“We’re developing, through technology, an ability for consumers to measure their own carbon footprint,” Alibaba’s president told the World Economic Forum (WEF).
“What does that mean? That’s where are they travelling, how are they travelling, what are they eating, what are they consuming on the platform. So, individual carbon footprint tracker. Stay tuned. We don’t have it operational yet, but this is something that we’re working on.”
[VIDEO of Alibaba President making these remarks.]
While Evans spoke in broad strokes, an article from Alizila, which covers Alibaba corporate news, gets into more specifics about the carbon footprint tracker.
“Alibaba Cloud launched the Energy Expert platform in February this year, allowing people to track their carbon footprint and receive credits worth money when making low-carbon choices,” Alizila writes.
“Expect to earn 200 carbon credits when you lick your plate clean, and 554 credits if you take the subway, according to the measurement system devised by Guangzhou-based certification body CEPREI, in partnership with Alibaba Cloud.”
They continue, saying the “trick is” to develop models that can monitor and translate individual activities into carbon credits and use the models to promote low-carbon lifestyles and communities.
“The platform is designed to encourage people to adopt low-carbon behaviours and be environmentally accountable,” General Manager of Product and Solution at Alibaba Cloud Chen Lijuan told Alizila.
So far, the Alibaba carbon footprint tracker has only been rolled out in China, specifically Xinqiao Shiju, where every resident “has a personal carbon account to monitor power use and carbon emissions. A household account combines the totals for everyone living in the same house,” Alizila reports.
Residents then have to share their energy consumption with an “Energy Expert” who provides “customized suggestions” on how they can reduce their energy use.
While the carbon footprint tracker is still in development and only in China, the CCP isn’t the only government that wants to track its citizens’ carbon footprint.
In late March, the municipality of Bologna, Italy, announced it was rolling out a soft social credit score in the form of a “smart citizen wallet” that can receive “digital points” based on whether a citizen has demonstrated “virtuous behaviour,” according to an article from Corriere di Bologna.
Of course, the top of the list for what’s considered “virtuous behaviour” is reducing your carbon impact.
In an article on the WEF’s agenda (which you can read here), The Counter Signal used a hypothetical carbon footprint tracker as an example of how digital IDs could be used to coerce citizens’ behaviours and reduce their quality of life.
It looks like that technology isn’t hypothetical anymore. It’s here, and it’s just as bad as we imagined.
The Controlled Demolition of the Economy
...But what I do know—because I covered it here in these pages just last month—is that just about every single central bank in the world is now actively pursuing the implementation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). I know that by the end of the decade—if not much sooner—we are going to see country after country adopting and foisting retail CBDCs on their citizens with the intent of tracking every transaction in the economy in real time. Finally, I know that an altogether new monetary instrument is unlikely to be adopted by the public absent some compelling reason, like a hyperinflationary crisis in the old monetary instrument.
Putting all of these facts together, it stands to reason that the financial order we have known our whole lives is slated for destruction and its days are numbered. It is in the light of this knowledge that I believe we should be interpreting the current economic crisis.
It's important to understand how nicely the pieces of the broader political/geopolitical/social/financial puzzle fit together and how all of the events of the last two years bring those pieces together. The biosecurity rollout necessitates the vaccine passports. The vaccine passports introduce the digital ID. The digital ID provides the infrastructure for the CBDCs. The CBDCs provide a mechanism for enforcement of a social credit system (and/or a carbon credit system). To see these events as separate events unfolding haphazardly and coincidentally is to miss the entire point. The demolition of the economy is just an excuse for the implementation of the next stage of the agenda, just as COVID-19 was an excuse for this stage of the agenda.
In short, the all-out economic assault being waged on the free peoples of the world right now is just another battlefield in the all-encompassing fifth-generation war we find ourselves fighting against the global elitists....
From Today, All New Vehicles In The EU Will Have Surveillance Black Boxes
Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit News,
From today, all new vehicles sold in the EU will have mandatory black boxes fitted that record technical data and will be accessible by authorities, greasing the skids for surveillance-powered speed limiting technology.
050722vehicles1.jpg?itok=RgsEE1UF
While for the time being, drivers can opt-out of using the feature, privacy advocates fear the technology will become mandatory once it is properly rolled out.
Back in 2019, the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) announced that July 6 would mark the day when all car manufacturers would be forced to fit new models with a system that keeps track of technical data.
The data recorded will include “the vehicle’s speed, braking, steering wheel angle, its incline on the road, and whether the vehicle’s various safety systems were in operation, starting with seatbelts.”
Although insurance companies won’t have immediate access to the data, it will be available to law enforcement.
Authorities claim the data will be “anonymized,” meaning the information can’t be used to identify the owner of the vehicle, although only the incredibly naive would plausibly believe that.
Such systems are expected to eventually include speed-limiting technology.
As Reclaim the Net’s Didi Rankovic explains, the most common method of speed limiting technology is Intelligent Speed Assistant (ISA).
“ISA works using GPS data alone, cameras for traffic sign recognition fitted to the front of the car, or a combination of the two. A speed limiter affects the engine power and in that way decreases speed.”
“Like the name suggests, speed limiters are designed to prevent drivers from exceeding certain speed limits, and prompt them via audio, visual, and haptic warnings until they “obey” and slow down.”
For decades, governments have been pushing for all cars to be fitted with black boxes that track location data.
The ultimate dystopian scenario involves giving police the power to utilize similar technology to completely disable the functioning of a vehicle if the driver is deemed to have committed an infraction.
This doesn’t need to be a criminal offense, if the pursuit of social credit score schemes continues to become more invasive, it would eventually be used as a form of punishment for everything from unpaid utility bills to offensive comments posted on social media.
