Maruti Will Make EVs Based on Customer Survey

Recommended Posts

This will be the first time that one country is conducting a survey to see what costumers think and want from EVs before making them. Knowing that India doesn't have any technology for EVs right now, will it succeed in this?

Not sure if they will make it happen, but it would be nice to have an electric car affordable for the masses as they plan to do.

Their  biggest challenge will be just that - to make affordable car and infrastructure.

At least they are aware they don't have a technology for EVs, But they will get some help from Suzuki and Toyota.

They also need government incentives for this project, just what Elon Musk is looking for as well. But Maruti probably need it more than Musk.

I still think they are rushing with these announcements. They skipped one step in their plans, which is - hybrid cars. Others already have them, but India decided to replace its petrol and diesel run cars with just an all electric fleet. They left a short term for such a big electric project.

The shift to EVs may not the best solution for India, especially if we're talking about pollution. This country is dependent on highly polluting coal-based thermal power plants for meeting its electricity needs. Having more EVs, the demand for electricity surges and than there are no guarantees the pollution will decline overoll. They should think twice.

Well if we are talking about what is more accessible for this country, then it would be hybrid cars. Although more expensive than EVs, the cost of infrastructure for these cars is more affordable.
