Trump-Putin Helsinki Summit And Oil Prices

Recommended Posts

IMO, Trump has to much riding on this "summit" to come out looking bad. And quite frankly so does Putin. The Russians have never really played the keep oil prices up game like OPEC has so I would venture to say that a good meeting could pressure oil prices lower.

From the Helsinki press conference :

Mr. Trump said that the two nations would be competing with regards to a natural gas pipeline. He said he was "not sure necessarily it's in the best interest of Germany" to pursue a deal with Russia.

Putin meanwhile suggested as two major oil and gas power producers, Russia and the U.S. could work together on the regulation of international markets.

"Neither of us is interested in the plummeting of the prices and the consumers will suffer as well," said Putin.

Any idea on how US and Russia could work together on the regulation of international markets ?

Maybe they could consider starting an International Organization to regulate International oil markets.

Possibly call it CPEC :

Collusion of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

US and Russia as the biggest exporters could rope in a few other yes-men countries to pad out the organization membership - like Nigeria and Canada.  But clearly, U.S. and Russia would be more equal than the other members.

Hmmmm, that idea already sounds kinda familiar though...

What I want to know is how consumers will suffer by "the plummeting prices."
