basically they voted against science, basic economics and for crony capitalism.

The ideal of a carbon tax is pretty impressive.
The implementation is the problem. It would depend on politicians not lining the pockets of themselves and their friends.

Canada allowed in the carbon tax and now their energy prices are through the roof, this also translates to food prices shooting up as well.

Carbon taxes are generally quite straight foward to apply and can be fiscally neutral

Collect say $30bn in Carbon Tax and reduce this off other taxes elsewhere - employment taxes, sales taxes on basic goods etc.

About the only ones who would not be helped by a well thought out carbon tax are coal producers and oil companies that are not diversified into natural gas and renewables.  Such a tax should be designed to reflect both the real cost of the carbon, to encourage usage of less carbon intensive alternatives, to help encourage carbon recapture, and to help ameliorate the adverse affects of additional carbon in the atmosphere.

As suggested by Michael Mehling, an MIT professor, applying carbon charges, instead of trade tariffs, to imports could be a smart solution to fight climate change and trade tariffs at the same time.

If a Carbon tax can limit pollution then it is a good thing. Electric vehicles are the future no matter what the Koch Bros say. If the USA doesn't stay competitive the Koch brothers will be speaking Chinese.
