Electric Vehicles Revolution Is Going to Result in Job Loses

Recommended Posts

(edited)

The Union of Auto Workers warns that electric vehicle revolution is going to result in job loses. UAW is taking this stance just a month after the German automotive labor union released a study claiming that at least 75,000 jobs could be lost as the industry switches to electric vehicles. Is EVs revolution really going to result in job loses?

This union spent over $400,000 last year alone on its “Tesla Campaign”, according to their own filings and has been leading efforts to unionize Tesla's Fremont factory.

It will be interesting to see how many people Musk fires once they get their production issues sorted out--assuming that they do. Tesla's workers need to unionize as quickly as they can.

EVs require less parts and require less servicing, and so of course that means less labor to manufacture those parts as well as less labor needed to fix them when they break, which in turn, means a lot of job losses.  However, this also means more efficiency, which is good for both the economy and the consumer.

The best way to explain the Union's argument is that they are idiots.  They might as well be arguing that we should outlaw tractors and give everyone a scythe, as that would create millions of jobs overnight!  The argument for outlawing tractors is justified in the same way the Union is trying to justify their unwarranted attacks on Tesla: create jobs by requiring inefficiencies.  ...and that is idiotic.

Hence: the best way to explain the Union's argument is that they are idiots.

It would be much more economical and much more practical to boycott unions than it would be to boycott EVs and tractors.  After all, think of all those jobs that were lost when the internal combustion engine vehicle was invented...you don't see too many blacksmiths around to shoe your horse anymore.  If only the wagon manufacturers had unions like we have them today, then you could be driving a team of oxen to work instead of your air-conditioned car.  Wouldn't you be in luck!
