VW Group Could Recall 124,000 Cars Due to Poisonous Cadmium

Recommended Posts

The VW group confirmed that it might have to recall as many as 124,000 electric and hybrid cars from its VW, Audi and Porsche brands due to poisonous cadmium finding its way into a charger component. This heavy metal, which can be dangerous and is largely prohibited in auto parts, has been found in a charger supplied to the group for all-electric and plug-in hybrids made by VW, Audi, and Porsche from 2013 and up until last month.

Bad luck for VW. After diesel scandal, now this.

Luckily VW hasn't exactly leaned over backwards to sell those cars so it represents a fraction of sales and even less of their margins.

Many households that still own more Cadmium than all of the VW cars together. 0.008 gram locked into electronic parts are not a danger. If so you best throw your computer, TV, ... as they all have it.

"0.008 grams of cadmium per device." Regulation gone mad

It says that 0 Cd is to be used in the car. In this case the Cd was used in the manufacturing and this could have been known if anyone would have checked. So this is not an accident but an oversight and they should be punished for it. Recalling the cars is nonsense.

Yes! VK is correct. This is not the first time VW is palying with the health of people. Countries like India and China should reconsiliate purchase VW cars.
