I was going through the news and was shocked to learn that Nigeria, which is one of the largest global producers of crude oil, still imports petrol for domestic consumption.

Nigerian government lack vision..... With such huge amount can't they should build refinery to serve whole country. I believe this is geopolitical issue there. Only certain Nigerian state are not served with domestic fuel

Nigeria allocates an average of $28 billion of her foreign exchange earnings yearly to import about 92 per cent of the petrol consumed locally

$28 billion per annum on importation of petrol, $65 billion on subsidy of kerosene in 4 years that's about $50 billion annually on petrol and kerosene ....and the 4 refineries need $30 billion to fix and Nigeria would have made $200 billion if these refineries are disposed off apart from tax revenues and employment opportunities associated with the disposal, looks like some people are crazy being in government

well they spent upwards $20 billion on an uncompleted Lekki refinery

i heard recently that they are planing to halt petrol imports by 2019, but I doubt it

Oil is the only chance for Nigeria and its survival ... But where there is oil, there is also corruption. Venezuela and PDVSA are the best example. But, in Nigeria as opposed to Venezuela there are serious investments in oil. They have just started with a project of 614 kilometers of gas pipeline that will connect the north (US 2.8 billion)
