Can Chinese Tariffs Stifle US LNG Growth Plans?

Recommended Posts

PetroChina might stop buying U.S. LNG for a while to avoid having to pay higher prices because of tariffs. But that's the smaller problem. The bigger problem is that Beijing could put a spoke in the wheels of planned LNG capacity that needs Chinese funding and this will threaten U.S. LNG expansion. How far will these two frenemies go?

Nothing is going to stop LNG expansion.  Everybody needs the stuff, everybody wants the stuff, the planet is wary of Russians under Putin (nobody knows who is going to get whacked with the ricin dart next, so stay away from London), the big transport ships will be coming down the slipways and hitting the seas in 2019, so a massive upsurge in LNG shipments is in the cards.  Whatever happens in the next six weeks is inconsequential.  The only possible world result is a big increase in LNG.  Whoever is in on these plays is going to clean up.
