Hopes Are Dashed For International Oil Companies In North Iraq

So, the Kurds are about to be butchered...  In an ironic twist, they should have wished to be incorporated into Turkey as Turkey would have an extremely good reason to WORK with them instead of subjugate them as this would be Turkey's only oil resource and to work against Iran/Iraq.  It also would have quelled... well partially quelled, several centuries of subjugation by all parties involved... but alas it is not to be.  Iraq(puppet of Iran due to IDIOCY of GWB and murderous associated scum) will now own even MORE of IRAQ lock stock and barrel making them even more powerful.  Give it a decade, Iran will be the regions strongest nation.  Will have the worlds largest oil reserves and worlds largest cheapest NG reserves.  The only problem is food...  But with Russia as a neighbor, food will not be a problem...  Iran, Russia, China as allies... yikes.  Thanks GWB you blithering MORON!!!

All Hopes Are Dashed For International Oil Companies In North Iraq

By Simon Watkins - Aug 08, 2022, 5:00 PM CDT

  • IOCs get blacklisted from operating in Iraqi Kurdistan.
  • Two landmark legal rulings made in February by the Supreme Court of the Federal Government of Iraq in Baghdad paved the way for blacklisting the IOCs.
  •  The withdrawal from parliament of Moqtada al-Sadr and his 73-member power bloc has caused chaos in Baghdad.

Any hopes held by international oil companies (IOCs) that the Baghdad-based Federal Government of Iraq (FGI) was just bluffing about blacklisting IOCs operating in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq have been dashed. A letter sent on 12 June by Hassan Muhammad Hassan, the deputy director general of the state-run Basra Oil Company (BOC) called on ‘all lead contractors and sub-contractors’ of IOCs working in Iraqi Kurdistan to pledge that they would no longer work in Kurdistan and that any current contracts should be terminated within three months. This has been followed up in the last few days with an order from the BOC director general, Khalid Abbas, to ‘all lead contractors’ that orders them to ‘suspend dealing with the following subcontractors and never invite them to any future works or projects in BOC oil fields as per the licensing contracts signed with your companies.’ According to local reports, multiple oil companies working in the northern Iraq Kurdistan region (including DNO, Western Zagros, Gulf Keystone, Genel Energy, and ShaMaran Petroleum received a letter on 19 May summoning them to appear at the Commercial Court in Baghdad on 5 June), whilst the most notable of the four IOCs blacklisted a few days ago was U.S.-Irish oilfield services giant, Weatherford International, according to Iraq news sources.

These moves were all presaged by two landmark legal rulings made in February by the Supreme Court of the Federal Government of Iraq in Baghdad, analysed in depth at the time by OilPrice.com. The first of these is that sales of oil and gas by the government of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq (the KRG), based in Erbil, done independently of the central government in Baghdad, is unconstitutional and that the KRG must hand over all oil production to the Federal Government of Iraq, represented by the Ministry of Oil. The second ruling, and an even greater direct threat to all oil and gas operations of IOCs operating in the northern region, is that the Ministry of Oil has the right to: “Follow up on the invalidity of oil contracts concluded by the Kurdistan Regional Government with foreign parties, countries and companies regarding oil exploration, extraction, export and sale.”

So, did you think Cheney and Bush intended to gain oil rights in the Kurdish region of Iraq? Other areas? If so, what happened to their plans? Do you think that the economy of Iran has benefited from its dictatorship and its aggression throughout the region? Are its people better off?

Oil rights?  No.  The Kurd problem was an after thought assuming they had any thoughts.   Iran?  Dictators will dictate and that is the normal way of the world.  Everyone forgets this.  We live in a VERY rare time in history.  It is not because we have "evolved" either.  The people have no choice if they want to EAT.

Why GWB? I think Trump whacking a high Iranian government official during a diplomatic visit to Iraq, together with some local brass, was the icing on the cake. Iran may be a state supporting some hypothetical terrorists, but US revealed itself as a terrorist state as such there. Tell me it ain't so?

Iran has been some kind of also-run great power for at least 3000 years. They have an insanely long planning horizon and truly devious plots, and will likely get what they want in the end.

In the latest news, they now got a spy satellite of their own. Just launched by Russia for them.

Iran is not a dictatorship. Your Goebbels propaganda calling them that doesn't make it so. They have very competitive elections. They've also got no "mullahs" It is a deliberate insult, as Shia Islam rejects the necessity of imams beyond some "original 14 infallibles" and thus doesn't really have any conventional clergy. The so-called "mullahs" fancy themselves to be the Iranian judicial branch, upholding adherence to sharia laws / interpreting them. This is very similar to your own Supreme Court divinations on the constitution to find stuff that obviously isn't there. (aka "Founding Fathers intent")

Iran is not a dictatorship. It is as democratic as anybody on the region gets, comparable to Israel.

I am no fan of the so-called democracy. If you are it, you set a very bad example. Alas, I don't think so. The so-called liberal democracy is as much of an utopia as Communism was. Sounds nice, but has never been implemented in the practice yet. You are clearly an oligarchy, with most of the population given an illusion of participation. In reality, you are only allowed to have opinions that the zombie box allows you to have.

All humans do is justify attacks on each other for whatever reason. Some countries every now and then bite off more than they can chew. The patterns of Allie’s and enemies keep shifting with suprising military moves. GW botched Iraq so bad a black man got elected in a racist country. So, mistakes do have consequences. The black man and his VP sleepy are killing off fossile fuel power as a result. Who would have thought Obama would steal power of majority money power from Russia, OPEC, and US FF companies. Renewables may be a real and justified environmental need but taking that energy market share takes political power forever. The FF power brokers of today will be much weaker in a few decades. Tec boys are the new kings. You just don’t see it yet.

Give up on names. The US system like most doesn't adapt well to changing conditions. Call the US clumsy at best. The main deal is putting the individual over government and business in spirit. Of course the individual is in a constant fight. But he can group with others and win enough battles to keep the system going. You can start a business, grow a business. You can work for others and retire comfortably if you were smart enough. You can move around if you can afford it. Let’s pick male nurse. Thousands of jobs in 50 states. Dozens of nurse type jobs. Two years of intense schooling and you can make $40,000 a year, anywhere. That’s America.

Half a black man. Obama's mother is white and a descendant of a bunch of European nobility, actually starting with Rurik, the founder of Kievan Rus'

I was working for a Russian VC firm investing in European renewables in the early 2000s already, when there was still money to make in it. The 2008 crisis killed that business. Investing into that now is for useful idiots. The Internet "tech" is even worse. I got-rich-quick on the original .com of the 90ties already. Today, that stuff is about as exiting is public utilities responsible for plumbing.

The smart home, the smart car, the smart train. It’s all in its infancy. Soon it will be the smart city, the smart state. Where the sun is hitting to where all water is used. To wring out waste you got to know every movement. This is what AI and computers will do. Someday you’ll do a saliva test and a machine will dock you points for the unhealthy foods you ate. Your making the system inefficient. If you pump water for a garden and use to much, you’ll get a notice. To much fertilizer or to little, you’ll get a notice. If your house isn’t properly insulated your wasting heat, you’ll get a notice. While your going towards chip less, the rest of the world will go toward chip heavy.

We are on the verge of becoming an autocracy if the Demoncrats get their way. The raid on Former President Trump proves that. The next election on November 8 will be telling.

It seems your salaries didn't change much in the last 20+ years since I last lived in US. Prices did though. I don't envy anybody having to live off $40K in Bay Area.

You are starting to see the light, Ron. You don't need to have an individual dictator to have an abusive government. Democracy makes for the worst tyranny. And it isn't me, but Aristotle who first observed it. An additional problem of representative democracy is that you don't get to personally share the responsibility for the results your vote brought by. The Age of Enlightenment started with the invention of the guillotine, a device that exemplifies this principle. US is especially bad, because the Protestant spirit of keeping up with the Joneses is still going strong with you. This is, very often, the primary motivator for how you vote.

So you see Kamala Harris or Sleepy out there demanding loyality and attempting a Coup? Lol The Dems are a military backed group. Obama was the last emotional leader who could easily rally the party. Sleepy runs on Trump incompetence and tomfoolery.

Many have two incomes and have inherited their homes from their parents. Life in the Bay Area is increasingly screwed up by the Democrats in charge. Nancy Pelosi is one. The Demoncrats are now the party of the rich and the largest corporations. They were built by their grandparents and are run by others. American oligarchs have always had a lot to say. Democrats were for the worker back then. They have switched sides. Now Republicans are the friend of the middle class and Democrats are trying to minimize their power any way they can. They want everyone dependent on their social programs. They are OK with inflation because their donors will have the money to support  their party.

If America keeps going the way it is politically, it will be like Europe where the people have little power and their rights are ignored. Fortunately we have a conservative supreme court. The Democrats prefer not to protect them however so I hope God does.

November 8th is of great importance for our future.

The coup has already occurred. The "establishment" is in control. At least until November 8, and the next presidential election.

Fortunately America is not nor ever has been a democracy. It is a constitutional republic with a strong constitution that limits what the three parts of the government can do. The Supreme Court is conservative thanks to Donald Trump. Soon the House of Representatives will be run by Republicans. The Senate possibly also. Then two years to the next presidential election. Democrats have more voters than Republicans but the independent voters have a lot to be unhappy about under the current administration as do many Democrats. The next 27 months will be very interesting. I am 77 so all I can do is give my two cents. I realize that I have little to fear since I will be dead before the country can become a virtual dictatorship under and administrative state that is in league with the Demoncrats, and their government unions with fantastic retirements and benefits.

Your allegedly conservative Supreme Court sold Trump out / chickened out, when they refused to pick up the case of 22? States demanding a recount.

True, but it would have been very awkward for them to do it without the consent of congress. Congress has a right to elect the president in such cases but they did not follow through. You make a good point though.

The Supreme Court is very slow to act so it would have been very tough for the public to accept. It is telling that the Democrats refused to stop crowds from in front of their houses after the states right abortion ruling recently came. It was illegal but they refused to enforce the law. The justices involved have been harassed in public and had one death threat that was close to being attempted.

This has never before happened in the United States to my knowledge. The Democrats have threatened to bloat the court with whatever number of justices they desire however and do so now.

Russia under Putin has eliminated all local control under his administration. Navalny is in jail and may never see the light of day. Democrats are doing their best to stop any possibility of Trump running again. That is they raided an ex president's home for the first time in history. I am hoping that all their blatant actions will work against them with many Democrats, Republicans, and independents. They are going for total power but they will not have it any time soon. We will regain the House and hopefully the Senate control. That will make a big difference. Then two years to the next presidential election.

Congressional elections of presidents

https://sgp.fas.org/crs/misc/R40504.pdfhttps://history.house.gov/Institution/Origins-Development/Electoral-College/

P.S. State leaders must seek to investigate their own elections validity. This should be done by using trackable paper ballots and same day voting aside from proven travelers or invalids. The election results should be declared within several hours of the day of election.

Mailing ballots has become a proven way to get lots of ballots that show up at the last minute IMHO.

An equally large problem is the private media being controlled by billionaires. That includes all forms of media. They gain too large of a right to suppress opinions. Facebook has almost totally removed the content that I put out. I have close to the limit of 5,000 followers. If their "fact checkers" disagree with any statements they threaten to limit your material but they did that to me years ago, before it became a common complaint. The same is true with my Twitter accounts. I have about 7,000 of them.

I don't know of any conservative newspapers that are nationally sold aside from the Epoch Times which is run by discontented Chinese Americans, Taiwanese, and Falun Gong adherents.

I subscribe to the Wall Street Journal, which is not conservative IMHO,

There are other conservative media companies like Fox News and Fox Business and many smaller ones. They are readily available, but have been suppressed when possible. Especially Gab, and Parler etc.
