After the Macondo oil leak ( I dont know why they call it a spill, a spill would be a one time event , some oil got spilled but did  not continue to leak and spew), I think Kevin Costner was peddling an oil recovery centrifuge of some sorts.

BTW, a much more effective solution for a bigger scale issue such as this is use of hydrocarbons degrading bacteria .

 

Or bio-remediation agents that promote the growth of bacteria that digest hydrocarbons

Also heard of some Canadians with a new process for oil sands production that could also be used for remediation.
