Recommended Posts

Armenia has long relied on Russia for its energy needs. However the government is still hoping to reduce  that dependence by using resource that Armenia has in abundance - the sun. Will this country manage to move out from dependence on its former Soviet master?

83 percent of the natural gas consumed by Armenia comes from Russia. This fact greatly makes difficult for Armenia to assert independence from Russia.

The rest of the energy Armenia gets from Metsamor nuclear facility which supplies 30 percent of all electricity within the country. But that facility is also suplied with fuel by Russia. This independence wish will be very hard for Armenia.

Renewable energy could help Armenia to move away from Russia but also to re-establish political power. This energy independence could also be helpful to Armenia in relations with not so friendly neighbors.
