China still to keep Iran oil flowing amid U.S. sanctions

Recommended Posts

Chinese buyers of Iranian oil are starting to shift their cargoes to vessels owned by National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC) for nearly all of their imports to keep supply flowing amid the re-imposition of economic sanctions by the United States. The shift demonstrates that China, Iran’s biggest oil customer, wants to keep buying Iranian crude despite the sanctions, which were put back after the United States withdrew in May from a 2015 agreement to halt Iran’s nuclear program. The United States is trying to halt Iranian oil exports to force the country to negotiate a new nuclear agreement and to curb its influence in the Middle East. China has said it is opposed to any unilateral sanctions and has defended its commercial ties with Iran.

White House national security adviser John Bolton said China, Iran and North Korea meddling in the midterm elections are "a sufficient national security concern". Maybe Congress should have funded election security.

So, if all these countries are using technology to interfere with our elections why don't we go back to paper ballots until security is better:)

India and South Korea are among Iran’s top oil customers. But China repeatedly has said it has no plans to comply with a wave of U.S. sanctions that are due to be reimposed on Iran’s energy sector on Nov. 4. Some oil analysts expect China to increase Iranian imports instead, potentially undermining U.S. efforts to isolate Iran.

What could be result?

"Market observers, including Giovanni Staunovo, a commodities analyst at UBS Wealth Management, have speculated that Europe, Japan and South Korea will cut Iranian imports, while India has indicated it intends to halve its imports. Turkey and China are wild cards, but even if they hold steady, the impact of lost Iran oil on the market would amount to 1 million to 1.5 million barrels a day, as expected, he said."
