VW Receives Massive Order Of 1,600 All-Electric Trucks

Recommended Posts

Great deal for VW. Ambev, an important Brazilian brewery, has committed to electrify its delivery fleet and placed an order for 1,600 all-electric trucks with Volkswagen. This could be the largest order of all-electric trucks to date. Last year, VW announced plans for a $1.7 billion investment to bring electric trucks and buses to market.

This is the best use for EVs. Lower costs and lower maintenance.

Heavy local delivery vehicles with huge stop and go, heavy weight and predictable daily mileage make much more economic sense than passenger cars. The percentage daily battery utilization will be much higher making the economic calculation work better.

“Massive” order of 1,600 trucks? How is 1,600 delivery trucks a “massive” order? What percentage of the annual market is this? There are 13 million local delivery trucks in the US alone. This is a tiny, hand-built experimental scale order. Good news. But hardly “massive”.

Their EV truck has a 170kWH battery which delivers a range of 124 miles. Looks like this truck is designed for last mile deliveries, not long hauls.
