Bernie Sanders introduces ‘Stop BEZOS Act’ in the Senate

Recommended Posts

Senator Bernie Sanders introduces his new BEZOS legislation with a press conference today. BEZOS stands for Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies and is a not subtle message to Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Jeff Bezos. Sanders says the bill is to create a “100 percent tax on corporations with 500 or more employees equal to the amount of federal benefits received by their low-wage workers.” Sanders has accused Amazon of “corporate welfare.” Amazon responded with a lengthy blog post claiming $15/hour pay for its full-time workers and criticizing Sanders’ use of the antiquated term “food stamps.”

This is a pretty important idea. I don’t think the bill goes anywhere but it’s something a ton of people don’t understand. Companies are being subsidized and laughing all the way to the bank. Amazon is not alone in this

This is a bad bill and should not be passed (and it won’t). Sure, it includes a bit there about how companies can’t discriminate or ask in advance whether employees are receiving federal benefits, but the enforcement depends on the Secretary of Labor choosing to push the issue, and in any case there are other ways Amazon could fire employees for choosing to take benefits without saying as such (or simply discriminate against them in hiring).

I wonder if Bernie will let me borrow one of his vacation houses for a few days? Sharing is caring

He keeps talking about how much he hate the 1%’s yet he is a member of the group himself.

Mitch McConnell will quickly drop that behind the Senate filing cabinets.

The city of Seattle tried implementing a head tax on employers with more than 50 employees...if Seattle couldn't do something that stupidly socialist, the US federal government sure as heck won't.

I love to listen to Bernie talk.  I get all warm and fuzzy inside.  And then I wake up.  Shxt!  Just a dream.  Oh well, maybe I'll go back to sleep and see if the dream will kick back in again.  Night all.  🌛

Technically it is not 'sharing'.  Under socialism, Bernie's vacation house is really your vacation house, since it actually belongs to 'the people'.  So feel free to make yourself at home anytime.

I think I am just going to lurk on this thread.  Bernie lives around the corner from me  (and the locals think of him as the lovable Grandpa who is harmless, precisely because nothing he says is ever going anywhere).

(edited)

A Quora question today about "Who is the rudest politician you have ever met?, resulted in this response from a reader.  I wouldn't have guessed it, but it does seem to fit when I think about it.

Oh, and some of the other answers below that one are also interesting.
