Coca-Cola eyes cannabis

The Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO) is weighing a jump into the world of cannabis. The Atlanta-based beverage giant is in talks with Canadian marijuana producer Aurora Cannabis Inc. to develop CBD-infused drinks, according to a report from Bloomberg. The news outlet said that the company is monitoring the industry and is interested in CBD, or cannabidiol — the chemical in marijuana often used for medicinal purposes.

Meanwhile, soda sales are trending down, as health consciousness grows. Consumers aren’t buying the sugary drinks as they realize the effects such drinks have on their health. In fact, per capita, carbonated soft drink consumption has declined to a 31-year low in the United States in 2016. The market in North America fell from $78.3 billion in 2016 to $76.4 billion last year
