Fuel Cells: Going Anywhere?

So, I came across this just now and while I'm suspicious of the motivation behind this story, I can't help but wonder what's happening with fuel cells? They used to be a big thing a few years ago but now they are not getting a lot of attention. Thoughts?

Certain industries would love to see fuel cells dominate over batteries as it would give them an opportunity to adapt and still be viable. Although loads of cash has been burnt following this it hasn't seen any real advantage that will allow it to compete with batteries.
